Grenoble: a father arrested in the middle of the night by the Raid because of a telephone hoax

2020-07-11T21:11:11.155Z

The police of the elite unit intervened after a malicious call accusing a 35-year-old father of having killed his wife. Not less than 17

Ismaël, 35, father of 4, is not about to forget his awakening with fanfare Thursday morning in Grenoble when he saw no less than 17 men from the Raid disembark at his home. It was in fact a telephone hoax, also called "Swatting", which led to the mobilization of these elite police officers, who thought they were dealing with a man who had just killed his wife.

It all starts at night from Wednesday to Thursday. Grenoble police receive a distress call. At the other end of the line, their interlocutor has a child's voice: “I am 8 years old and my father has just killed my mother. He is armed. And now he says he's going to kill me and my sister. Come quickly ! Given the extremely delicate context of the case, the Grenoble police decided to call on their colleagues from the Raid based in Lyon (Rhône). The latter jump into their vehicles and head at full speed towards the capital of the Alps. They arrive in the Villeneuve district, at the address indicated by "the child" who called the police.

A drone is first used to try to find out what is going on in the suspect's apartment, located on the 6th floor of a building in Allée des Frênes. No result. Around 8:30 am, the 17 police officers of the Raid then decide to take action.

"It was hardcore, muscular"

Ismaël, the father of the family, says: “I had just woken up. I heard a noise. The door to my apartment had just been smashed. I then saw armed police, hooded, helmeted, with shields, rushing towards me. They shouted to me: Get down! They pointed their weapons in my direction. I did. They handcuffed me and dragged me to the floor to the elevator. I had two police officers on me. It was hardcore, muscular. Like in the movies. While I was stuck on the ground, I said to them: I did nothing! What is happening ? They replied: We will explain to you later. "

In the apartment, the Raid's police officers also come across Ishmael's wife, who is far from dead ... "Well yes, I was alive and well. My husband never killed me, ”she explains today with a smile. The Raid police then understand that they were victims of a telephone hoax, as did the family who occupies this accommodation. Ismaël is released.

His wife is not about to forget this morning nightmare: “I was very afraid. I was wondering what was happening. My children, who are 3, 10, 13, and 14, were very shocked to see all of these police officers. "Ismaël does not hold it against the men of the Raid:" I understand them, they are doing their job. Even if it was a little muscular. What is especially scandalous is the person who made this hoax. I went to file a complaint against her. "

Internet user "threatened to ruin my life"

The police have also opened an investigation to identify the author of this bad joke who is not resident in Isère, according to initial investigations. Ismaël thinks he is the victim of a surfer with whom he would have had trouble leaving on social networks. "He had threatened to ruin my life," he explains.

Word obviously kept since before the intervention of the Raid, the father had been the victim of two other hoaxes since early July. "I was reported as a man who beat his wife and the police came to my house for the first time in the middle of the night. A few days later, it was the Samu that I saw disembarking, in combination, like cosmonauts. We called them and told them I had coronavirus. It's starting to do a lot. "
