American actor Johnny Depp turns around and poses for the media as he arrives at the London High Court on Monday, July 13. On the fifth day of her highly publicized trial, the star worked to reveal another large part of her intimacy in an attempt to wash her tarnished image.
The famous "Pirate of the Caribbean" concluded his testimony on Monday during his defamation trial against a tabloid who accused him of having been violent with his ex-wife Amber Heard. The Hollywood star is suing the News Group Newspapers , publisher of the Sun , and the newspaper's editor, Dan Wootton, for an April 2018 article which presented him as an abusive husband.
A stormy marriage
In his defense, the newspaper invokes 14 accusations of violence made by his ex-wife, which date back to the years 2013-2016. The couple, who met in 2011 on the set of "Rhum Express", divorced after less than two years of a stormy marriage in early 2017.
Under the heavy fire of questions from NGN's lawyer, Sasha Wass, the actor found himself forced to explain himself about his excesses, alcohol, drugs from adolescence, and to come back on the incidents which have marked the life of the couple he formed with Amber Heard.
A problematic birthday
According to the actor, the couple separated after an argument that followed Ms. Heard's 30th birthday party in April 2016. Depp said that just before the party, he attended a meeting and learned that his former company directors had "stolen" his money.
Depp added that in addition to losing the 650 million he had earned through his involvement in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, he was "100 million in the hole because they hadn't paid my taxes to the government for 17 years ”. But in 2018, Depp and his former company directors had settled the legal case on this alleged fraud.
The 57-year-old actor claims that after the party, he went to bed to read, and that Heard started accusing him of spoiling his birthday dinner before punching him. The court was however informed of a different version by the opposing party. An alleged incident in which Depp showed up late for Amber Heard's 30th birthday party after receiving bad news at a meeting on his finances. He then allegedly threw a magnum of champagne over her and pulled her hair.
A turbulent flight
Depp was followed by several witnesses, including his former personal assistant Stephen Deuters, who notably contradicted Heard's account of an incident during a private plane flight between Boston and Los Angeles in May 2014. Heard claims that the actor got angry, slapped her, and kicked her in the back because he believed she was having a relationship with actor James Franco. Deuters admitted texting Heard after the theft, saying that Depp was "incredibly sorry and knows he did wrong," but denied that that meant he agreed with his version of the facts.

When told that he and other assistants, as Heard claims, "did nothing" to help him during the flight, Deuters said: "I remember we got up from the seats to intervene. He was clearly at the point where we wanted to help him, stop him or intervene. "
And to assure that he did not remember that Depp had been violent towards Heard during this robbery, one of the 14 alleged incidents of domestic violence that NGN presents in his defense against the defamation complaint of the actor. Depp denies all of these allegations.
Amber or Johnny: who is the violent one?
