Cars, garbage cans and bus shelters on fire, the night from Monday to Tuesday was rough in Évreux (Eure). In the Nétreville district, a car fire even spread to a house that burned to the ground. The occupants of the burnt house may have been rescued but they will have to be relocated. The scenes of violence, which took place between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m., are part of an "insurgent climate," said a witness interviewed by the newspaper.
Eight injured mobile constables
A squadron of mobile gendarmes was sent to reinforce the local police in an attempt to maintain calm, said the prefecture. The mortar fireworks launched by "several bands of aggressive young people", the sixty members of the police present responded with shots from de-encirclement grenades and tear gas canisters. Eight gendarmes were slightly injured, according to France Bleu.
The police force will be renewed overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday in order to maintain calm. A judicial investigation is under way.
