Coronavirus: progress towards a vaccine, reconfiguration in India

• Over 574,000 dead

At least 574,278 people died due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report established by AFP from official sources Tuesday July 14 at 8 p.m. Over 13 million cases of infection have been officially diagnosed in 196 countries and territories. While the United States remains the most bereaved country with 136,432 victims, California, the most severely affected region of the United States and which has seen an increase in the number of new cases in recent weeks, is reconfiguring itself by closing restaurants, bars, schools and places of worship. • Final phase for a vaccine

As the pandemic continues to rage around the world, a glimmer of hope seems to appear for the creation of a vaccine against Covid-19. American biotech Moderna announced Tuesday July 14 that it will enter the final phase of its clinical trials for a vaccine against Covid-19 on July 27. This last step is essential, it must verify the effectiveness of the treatment in real conditions. 30,000 Americans will receive a sample, half will be the molecule in question, the other will be a placebo.

Moderna is not the only laboratory on the trail of a vaccine. The Chinese company SinoVac is also at an advanced stage of research and the Russian agency TASS has also announced that it has conclusive results which have not yet been published.

• India is being massively reconfigured

From July 16, the 125 million inhabitants of the state of Bihar in the north of the country are asked to stay at home. They join the 13 million inhabitants of Bangalore who were confined again on July 14. The first confinement had been national and brutal at the end of March and then lifted in June.

With a young population, the second most populous country in the world has not experienced a very high mortality rate despite the 900,000 confirmed cases. For specialists, the peak of the epidemic has not yet been reached.

• 65 doctors and health workers who died from the corona virus died in El Salvador

• Reinforced quarantines for travelers to New York

To cope with the surge in cases in the United States, especially in the south and west of the country, New York State has strengthened quarantine measures for American visitors. Residents of 22 states will have to isolate themselves for 14 days after entering the American economic capital.
