He pretended to be a buyer. A young thief stole a car with the baby who was inside in Canet-en-Roussillon (Pyrénées-Orientales), this Tuesday, before being arrested after a crazy chase. On Wednesday, the suspect was still in police custody in the afternoon, awaiting his presentation to justice.
The day before, at the end of the evening, this young man of 18 "unfavorably known", according to the gendarmerie, had gone to the home of a father who was selling a Volkswagen Golf in this small seaside town at the gates of Perpignan.
Pretending to want to try the vehicle, the young man took advantage of the seller's inattention to start and run away without realizing that the owner's son, a one-year-old boy, was installed in the back.
Panic
Panicked, the young father gave the alert and chased the vehicle with members of his family. The gendarmes, for their part, mobilized an important interception device associating with military means, the national police and the municipal police of the coastal municipalities of the surroundings.
