The massacre continues in the mountains. A new drama occurred shortly after noon this Friday, at Chapelle-en-Valgaudemar, in the Massif des Ecrins (Hautes-Alpes). A 55-year-old mountaineer killed himself by falling to an altitude of 2,600 m, rescuers say.
The man unscrewed and fell 200 m, specifies the CRS of the department.
Black sequence
This fatal accident in the region is in addition to those reported on the Haute-Savoie mountains on the single day of July 14. Four mountaineers, two paragliders and a hiker lost their lives in four separate accidents on the summits of the department, where 36 deaths were recorded in the summer of 2018 (last figures known), all sports combined.
A "black series" that mountain rescue workers explained in the first place by a lack of vigilance.
