Two men drowned on Sunday at a leisure center near Toulouse (Haute-Garonne). According to Actu.fr, the drama occurred around 6 p.m. at Lac de la Ramée.
The two victims were aged 28 and 33. When one of them got in trouble, the second also went into the water to help her.
La Dépêche du Midi explains that it is the older of the two who went to bathe, with his dog. Only the animal would have returned. Worried, the second man threw himself into the water and, for some unknown reason, he too found himself in difficulty before sinking.
The hydrocution trail
The emergency services failed to revive them. They were dispatched in large numbers to the site, around twenty people. The marked temperature difference between the edge of the lake, warm because it is shallow, and the areas far from the edge, colder, could explain the discomfort and the two deaths. An investigation has been opened.
Each year, several hundred people drown in France. It is the leading cause of accidental mortality in everyday life among children under 15. Supervision of the youngest is essential. Any fatigue should alert you to the need to get out of the water. A large difference in temperature between the body and the water can also promote hydrocution, a thermal shock that can cause drowning.
