We are Wednesday July 22 and it's time to take stock of the news at midday. In this first "recap", we talk to you about the incredible rescue of two children, trapped in a burning building in Grenoble, excess mortality linked to the Covid-19 epidemic or the Top Chef duo Mallory-Adrien victim of their success.

The info not to be missed:

  • “I'm hurt, but I'm proud because I saved two lives. Yes, I am very proud of myself and of all the people who were there to receive the children. We were united. We mobilized to save lives ”, testifies a resident of Grenoble, after the heroic rescue Tuesday afternoon. Two children escaped the fire in their building by jumping into the void, before landing in the arms of people ten meters below. Several of these heroes were injured, sometimes seriously with broken bones. The two children were also hospitalized, but only for intoxication. Our story can be read here.

Here is also what to remember:

  • France is the sixth country in Europe to have declared the most deaths from Covid-19 compared to its population between March 2 and May 31, 2020, according to an investigation by Public Health France. 44.5 deaths were recorded per 100,000 inhabitants. Belgium, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy and Sweden precede us.
  • In the Rhône, the relatives and acquaintances of the five children who died in the terrible road accident Monday evening testify. “In Vénissieux, everyone knows each other. Me, I was in the class of the older brother of one of the children, my sister in that of the sister etc., etc. We are all affected at different levels ”, confides a schoolgirl. Another child is still in a state of absolute emergency.
  • If the mask will not be made free for the entire population, as Emmanuel Macron announced on Tuesday evening, a distribution will be organized to 500,000 high school students in Ile-de-France for the start of the school year, announces the president of the region, Valérie Pécresse. Each of them will receive two washable masks.

The unexpected info:

  • The chip shop was intended to be ephemeral, but probably not at this point! The establishment launched by the two star candidates of "Top Chef" Mallory and Adrien, quai de la Tournelle (Ve), in Paris, will not reopen, just five days after the inauguration. "It may have been a bit quick," admits one of the two, victim of his success. We had met them the day after the opening.
