Already condemned on multiple occasions for anti-Semitic and racist remarks, Alain Soral is risking very high this time. After 48 hours in police custody at the personal delinquency repression brigade (BRDP) of the Paris PJ, the far-right essayist, aged 61, was indicted in the context of a extensive judicial investigation targeting numerous controversial statements made in recent months.
The justice decided to bring together in a procedure a large panel of offenses: "public provocation not followed by effect, by directly calling to commit one of the crimes and offenses against the fundamental interests of the Nation, public insult for good reason. of origin or belonging to an ethnic group, nation, race or religion, public provocation to hatred or violence… ”
According to sources close to the investigation, the facts relate to the writings and comments of Alain Soral, very active on social networks, published or held in March 2020 on his YouTube video channel, in April 2020 on the Russian social network Vkontakte ( VK) and in May 2020 on its Equality and Reconciliation website.
A declaration calling on citizens to "arm themselves"
One sentence is considered particularly worrying by investigators: it is a video posted online calling on citizens "to arm themselves" for a revolution. This declaration had been the subject of a denunciation by Christophe Castaner, then Minister of the Interior, under article 40 of the code of criminal procedure. The investigation also targets comments deemed racist or hateful.
The Paris prosecutor's office requested the placement of Alain Soral in pre-trial detention. Until now, investigations targeting the essayist were only handled by direct summons to the criminal court. The 60-year-old had been sentenced to prison on several occasions but systematically appealed, allowing him to escape effective imprisonment.
Alain Soral was arrested Tuesday, in the middle of the street, by the police of the BRDP. His relatives then published a press release on the Equality and Reconciliation website, indicating that they had no more "news" from him and had noted that his home had been searched.
