Facebook announced yesterday (Saturday) that it has added to its video service, Facebook Watch, the ability to view official clips of well-known singers as part of a partnership agreement with major music companies - such as Sony Music, Universal Music Group, and the Warner Music Group. Viewing is initially available in the United States only.

This is a huge change for Facebook, which with this launch enters the field that YouTube unquestionably dominates, and is going to greatly challenge it. The videos can be accessed in the Watch category, and they will be divided by genres, artists, moods - and will even be available on the Facebook page of the singers signed to one of the companies in the agreement.

"With the help of official music videos on Facebook, we are creating new social experiences that are more than just watching a video," Nakba said on the social network's official blog. Facebook notes that you can also follow your favorite artists and stay up to date and see their latest clips in the feed.

Meanwhile, Facebook notes that later on the content will be individually tailored based on the taste of the user and the artists he follows. It is currently unknown when, and if at all, the service will be distributed outside the US.
