Pau: around fifty dogs in distress seized from a private individual

It is a story of animal distress, but also human. About fifty dogs were evacuated Thursday August 6 from the home of an "old man overwhelmed", in Asasp-Arros, near Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).

"Upon denunciation of a neighbor, we intervened this morning at 9 am at an individual who allowed himself to be overtaken because his dogs were not sterilized", explained Daniel Raposo, investigator for the Bardot Foundation.

The Foundation has recovered "animals, thin, with skin problems, which have not been socialized, but are not aggressive," he added.

According to him, the dogs that have bred among themselves look like shepherd and border collie dogs, of medium size. "There are five puppies, a pregnant bitch and a majority of adults of all ages."

As all the animals are transportable, according to the veterinarian, a large majority of them will join the refuge of the Bardot de la Mare-Auzou Foundation in Normandy and the others will go to pensions.

"Psychologically fragile"

As for the owner, "the old man who admits to having let himself be overtaken by events, he will keep five dogs which have been sterilized at our expense," said Jessica Langlois, head of veterinary care at the Foundation, who did not wished to file a complaint against him.
