Twelve people have died of the coronavirus in France in the past 24 hours, bringing to 30,324 the total number of victims since the start of the epidemic, the Directorate General of Health (DGS) announced on Thursday, August 6 in its daily press release.

2,288 new cases have been detected in the past 24 hours, and more than 9,330 have been detected in a week. 136 new hospital admissions were recorded, for a total of 5,011 patients currently hospitalized. Among them, 20 new serious patients have been admitted to intensive care since yesterday, bringing the number of patients in these units to 383, against 390 yesterday. The regions " Île de France, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Hauts-de-France and Guyana group together 69% of patients in intensive care ", specifies the DGS.
288 “ clusters ”, or sources of contagion, are still active in the territory, including 21 new ones that have been detected in the last 24 hours. Between July 29 and August 4, 593,640 tests were carried out in the territory, with a positivity rate of 1.7%. Since the start of the epidemic, 108,073 people have been hospitalized and 82,836 have returned home.

In order to reduce the risk of infections, the DGS recommends wearing a mask, even outdoors if the distance of 1 meter is not respected, and to avoid too large friendly and family gatherings. " Focus on small groups, equip yourself with masks for the general public and hydroalcoholic gels, prefer outdoor spaces, ventilate the premises, activate StopCovid, protect the most fragile ", she explains.
Globally, the threshold of 19.1 million infected since the appearance of the virus has been crossed, for a total of at least 716,083 deaths.
