Sunday, 09 August 2020, 09:36Make sure your computer is up to date: A new vulnerability has been discovered in the Windows operating system, in which hackers have been able to take over the private network by attacking the printer. The breach was discovered by the Israeli cyber company SafeBreach, which reported this to Microsoft. A breach occurs by exploiting a loophole in the Windows Print process that manages the printing process, giving third-party applications administrator privileges. The same administrator privileges allow hackers to gain full access to the system, which they can exploit.

A loophole was discovered in Microsoft printing services (Photo: ShutterStock)At this stage it is not clear whether attackers used the loophole that was discovered several months ago by Peleg Hadar and Tomer Bar, researchers at the Israeli company who reported it to Microsoft. The software giant released an update as early as May, but it is now reported that the update has not completely closed the loophole. It should also be noted that the source of the fault is not with the printer manufacturers, but is due to a fault in the Microsoft operating system only.
Microsoft has now reported that it will fix the vulnerability in the next security update scheduled for August 11th. By then, hundreds of millions of computers will remain exposed to the dangerous loophole. The network also warned against Microsoft's updates on the subject, as the latest updates have done more harm than good, with the June 2020 update causing serious problems with printers.
