With a range close to 500 km, dual propulsion and a 33-inch dashboard. Cadillac breaks into the future
Tonight Cadillac introduced the LYRIQ - the first electric vehicle of the premium brand which is based on Cadillac's most advanced technologies and architecture. This is what your eyes see in a 5-door SUV with design features typical of the Cadillac but also with its own unique message.

The LYRIQ is based on GM's new electric platform that utilizes a propulsion system that the company calls “ultium” in this principle an array of batteries with a low-lithium chemical compound, in which each unit has independent wiring to reduce the amount of wiring in the vehicle and allow individual cells to be replaced. In addition the entire battery array is a load-bearing part of the chassis structure.
Cadillac claims a range of 300 miles (about 480 km) in internal tests in the company (does not specify with which propulsion configuration). This is a battery with a capacity of 100 kWh. In addition to the Ultium batteries, it has a fast charging capacity that exceeds 150 kW from fast DC stations.
The propulsion comes from a rear electric motor or in a dual propulsion version with an additional front electric motor. Cadillac itself did not publish the output figures of the engines, but industry sources estimate that the output of the rear engine will be about 335 hp and the front about 240 hp. Definitely a very dynamic package. The press release did bother to point out the vehicle’s low center of gravity and equal weight distribution (50:50) as key components in sporty and sharp road behavior.
Also in the innovations is LYRIQ - a full virtual cockpit made of one 33-inch screen. The screen combines all the driving experiences, multimedia and of course parking cameras. The wide screen is concave towards the driver - and is made of super-high-resolution LED technology and with great brightness to be seen in full daylight. More innovations Autonomous parking - with or without the driver behind the wheel. Super Cruise 2 that also allows lane departure and of course AKG's premium audio system with 19 speakers. The Cadillac LYRIQ will hit the US market at the end of 2022 - it will reach us later.
The LYRIQ is just the first swallow in an attack of dozens of new electric models that are expected to arrive from GM in the coming months and years. Some are based on the modular Ultium platform and others (like the electric HUMMER) come from the pickup areas.
