Disappeared since Thursday, a 57-year-old paraglider was found dead this Tuesday afternoon in Haute-Garonne, in the town of Oô, according to La Dépêche du Midi. Didier K. took off Thursday from the heights of Val Louron, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, about ten kilometers from where the sail was spotted by a private helicopter, adds France Bleu Occitanie. The remains of the 50-year-old were then recovered by the mountain CRS.
Paraglider with a long experience, Didier K. left on Thursday with a group, but he did not follow the initial flight plan for an unknown reason. “It was a good day for long distance flying, with high ceilings, in these conditions, you can climb up to 4000 meters if you are experienced,” explained Richard Berthome, a paragliding instructor from Val Louron.
After his disappearance, research had been launched in the Hautes-Pyrénées, Haute-Garonne and the Spanish side of the Pyrenees. Relatives of the paraglider have also created an online kitty to finance research, in particular via private flights. It was thanks to one of these flights that Didier K.'s sail could be spotted, indicates France 3 Occitanie.
Tuesday evening, the pot exceeded 13,000 euros. "As soon as we find him, the funds still available will go to an association, if necessary they will be donated to his family," said the people who launched it.
