Both a peace agreement and the resumption of flights, all in one evening. History before our eyes

A national holiday or a political spin to beware of? Reporters and commentators did not really know how to eat the dramatic news and frame it. At the same time, it was revealed what the question really is for Israelis. What was said: Both peace and flights to Croatia that evening, we were like dreamers

In the video: Netanyahu refers to the historic agreement with the United Arab Emirates (GPO)

Not every day there is an open statement of normalization with an Arab state. Not every day Israel abandons a political paradigm with far-reaching consequences like the plan to annex the territories. The two happened at once yesterday, bound together as a surprising move by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Drama for everything, even though it is detached from the Israeli agenda that is currently busy with possible elections, corona and violence in kindergartens.

Indeed, the removal from the closet of UAE-Israel relations and what was defined as a peace agreement between them, and the abandonment of the annexation plans as a result, surprised everyone, including the Israeli media, which did not quite know how to eat the story. Raviv Drucker.

A national holiday or a political spin to beware of? Contemporary peace, or simply surface exposure of existing and known relationships? A value appeal and a strategic achievement or abandonment of Netanyahu's election guarantee, and a turning back to his supporters? Achievement to the right or left? In the face of the news, the commercial channels seemed embarrassed and unsure of themselves as to how to frame such a dramatic event. Even the press conference, an extraordinary event in itself - was accompanied by a less festive atmosphere than could be imagined.

Accordingly, the discussion on the strategic nature of the event seems to have strayed to other issues - such as what the peace agreement says about the tension in the coalition. If the agreement between Dubai and Jerusalem seems to have been made over the head of Ramallah, the channels also devoted very little space to the position of the Palestinians, the absentees present at the event, on the issue, and certainly did not speak to a Palestinian spokesman. Peace, conflict, settlements, what the emirates will benefit from the cooperation - in the end maybe the Israelis are interested in other things. The agile profile prepared by Hezi Simantov on Channel 13 about our new company ended with a question about the questions - which, it turns out, is when Israelis will be able to fly to Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Which leads to much happier things, that the media did manage to agree that they are in a significant line. So what can you get excited about? In News 12 and especially in 13 they allowed themselves to be much more enthusiastic about opening the skies to two and a half countries. What really excites the Israeli bourgeoisie is the regular annual vacation abroad, or, to use less subtle words, to fly from here.

Thus, as part of the celebrations, in News 13, which regularly budgets a large volume for tourism, devote a special article to flight food (!). In News 12, they prepared a tourism profile for Croatia, and tourism reporter Lee Abramovich referred to the reopening of Ben Gurion Airport as a "historic moment." What was said: Both a peace agreement and even flights to Croatia that evening, history takes place before our eyes. We were like dreamers.
