Trump announces cancellation of trade talks with China

12:25 a.m.: The US has canceled planned talks with China about the partial trade agreement in January until further notice. This is what US President Donald Trump said during a campaign appearance in the city of Yuma in the southwestern state of Arizona. Regarding the coronavirus pandemic, Trump said: "I don't want to negotiate with you now. After what you have done to this country and the world, I don't want to talk to China now."

The talks originally scheduled for last weekend were intended to examine, among other things, the extent to which the contracting parties are keeping to the promises they made in January. In the agreement, Beijing had promised a significant increase in its imports from the United States, including agricultural products. According to observers, Beijing has not yet met its goals, among other things because of the corona crisis.

The relationship between the two countries has suffered as a result of the pandemic. China is considered the country of origin of the pandemic, which triggered a severe economic crisis in the United States and could endanger Trump's re-election in November.

More and more Germans get infected while on vacation

12:15 a.m.: Almost 40 percent of the people who last tested positive for the coronavirus in Germany were infected abroad. This is based on data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). Of the known new infections, the proportion of probable infections abroad was 39 percent. For comparison: A week earlier, 34 percent had been infected abroad, before that it was 21 percent. Most frequently, Kosovo, Turkey, Croatia, Bulgaria and Bosnia and Herzegovina were named as likely infection countries.

However, the RKI did not state how large the proportion of tests of return travelers was in all tests. This information is necessary in order to assess how large the proportion of imported infections actually is. For example, it could be that returnees are tested more often on average than the rest of the population.
