"Criminal judicial information under the qualification of murder by partner has been entrusted to an investigating judge of the judicial court of Rennes," said the public prosecutor, Philippe Astruc, in a statement.

Already sentenced for violence against his partner

He had already been sentenced in September 2016 by the Rennes criminal court to one year's imprisonment, including eight months with a suspension of probation for two years for acts of willful violence committed with a weapon. on his mate.

To date, at least 47 suspected feminicides have occurred since the start of the year, according to an AFP tally. In 2019, there were at least 126 cases of women killed by their partner or ex, or a woman every three days on average. In France, murder by cohabiting leads to life imprisonment.
