Yet another alleged murder of a woman under the beatings of her husband in 2020: the 43-year-old man, suspected of having killed his companion on the night of Wednesday to Thursday in Rennes, was indicted and placed in detention, according to the prosecution.
"Criminal judicial information under the qualification of murder by partner has been entrusted to an investigating judge of the judicial court of Rennes," said the public prosecutor, Philippe Astruc, in a statement.
The autopsy of the victim confirmed "the presence of three stab wounds including one fatal as well as numerous traces of violence," said the prosecution. If he "admitted to having stabbed him", the man affirmed not to have had "the intention to kill his companion", aged 40 years.
The man, unemployed, "was indicted on this count and was placed in pre-trial detention". According to the prosecutor, during his custody, the suspect admitted to having "exercised daily significant violence on his companion since Monday (August 17) against a background of jealousy and in a context of alcohol and medication".
Already sentenced for violence against his partner
It is the man himself who had alerted the emergency services on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, indicating having killed his companion in the apartment of the couple, who has no children. He had already been sentenced in September 2016 by the Rennes criminal court to one year's imprisonment, including eight months with a suspension of probation for two years for acts of willful violence committed with a weapon. on his mate.
To date, at least 47 suspected feminicides have occurred since the start of the year, according to an AFP tally. In 2019, there were at least 126 cases of women killed by their partner or ex, or a woman every three days on average. In France, murder by cohabiting leads to life imprisonment.
