Widgets on the home screen, ECG on the smartwatch and an improved sound experience on AirPods: Apple will release updates to its operating systems tonight • Why is it worth updating and how will you do it right? • All the details

Last night (Tuesday) Apple held a live announcement event in which it unveiled a range of new products and services.

Alongside the festive event, the company took the stage and announced that tonight (Wednesday), around 20:00 (Israel time), the new versions of operating systems for mobile devices will arrive - iOS 14 for iPhones, iPadOS 14 for iPads and WatchOS 7 for Apple Watch.

How to update?

There are usually no glitches in switching between versions, but you'd better always be prepared and make sure first that all your information is backed up in iCloud (Apple's cloud storage service).

All you have to do is log in to the Settings app, click on "General", from there go to "Software Update" and confirm the download of the new update.

After a download that may take many minutes, the device will offer you to install the operating system.

If you are edited, click "Install".

It will then reboot - turn off and on - and at the end you will be required to type the password for the device manually.

The innovations in iOS 14

Since 2007, the day Steve Jobs took the stage and introduced the first iPhone, the arrangement of apps on the home screen of the iPhone operating system has hardly changed.

Now, Apple allows you to rearrange the applications and adds the option to place widgets between the apps on your iPhone and iPad, something that has existed in Android devices for more than a decade.

You can see the widgets on the Today screen and drag them to the home screen so that they appear regularly.

In the gallery itself you can also choose the appropriate size - so that it fits the area where you want the widget next to the apps on the screen.

And that's not all, pulling aside on the last home screen will take you to a screen where you can see all your apps in an orderly and larger way by categories.

The organization is done automatically, but you can also organize it manually.

Another feature that has been addressed is the ability to display videos in the background while using the device, so you can change the position of the video and continue using the device.

And one of the last things we do today with the smartphone is make phone calls.

And since 2007 whenever a call is received, it completely takes over the screen of the device.

Now, Apple is adding an option that has been familiar to Android users for a long time - an alert for an incoming call in the top bar of the device.

WatchOS 7 and ECG feature

The significant innovation you will receive in the new version, along with sharing "Watch Face" (screen designs with friends), is the ECG feature that is finally coming to Israel. Alongside, there is the option of tracking sleep in an application called "Sleep", Throughout the night he knew how to show you in the morning the quality of your sleep through machine learning (AI).

In the shadow of the corona plague, the company added an important feature that knew when to wash your hands.

Once you perform the operation it will help you do it for 20 seconds, exactly as instructed.

In addition, the main news that comes with the Apple Watch in its sixth version is measuring blood oxygen saturation (storation) within 15 seconds, to detect medical problems.

Upgrade to Airfoods

Apple is making synchronization between its devices smarter.

If you have an iPhone, iPad and MacBook - the headphones will be able to detect that you are listening to something on another device and will connect to it automatically, without you having to do it manually.

For this to work, you will need to sign in to your iCloud account on each of the devices.

A feature called "Spatial Audio" will reach AirPods Pro and allow for a higher sound experience, and you will be able to recognize sounds coming from different directions, similar to the sound experience in movie theaters.

In addition, the headphones will use movement tracking of your head relative to the device to provide you with a more accurate sound experience by calibrating.

MacOS Big Sur and iPadOS update

The new version of Macs, known as Big Sur, includes a major design change to the operating system interface, including a redesign of the icons and new sounds.

And the iPad operating system, iPadOS, has received a design refresh that includes some new features, including better utilization of working with the touch screen.
