Daimler Trucks today presented - a few hours after the announcement of the European Commission on the EU plan which aims to drastically reduce CO2 emissions - the realization of the most advanced technology for electrification of transport vehicles, the one that uses hydrogen as an energy source .

It does so by presenting the Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck concept, a fuel cell heavy vehicle for long-haul transport with a range of over 1,000 kilometers.

With GenH2 Truck, Daimler Trucks demonstrates for the first time what specific technologies the manufacturer is driving forward at full speed so that heavy fuel cell trucks can perform 'flexible' transport operations over long distances to over 1,000 kilometers using a single hydrogen tank.

Daimler Trucks plans to begin customer trials of the GenH2 truck in 2023;

series production will begin in the second half of this decade.

Thanks to the use of liquid hydrogen instead of gaseous with its higher energy density, the vehicle will offer performance equal to that of a conventional diesel truck of comparable power and weight.

'' We need zero-carbon transport vehicles on our roads - said Martin Daum, chairman of the board of Daimler Truck AG and member of the board of directors of Daimler AG - These include trucks with fuel cells powered by a hydrogen.

There is enormous potential in hydrogen for protecting our environment and strengthening the economy, which is why we have been funding hydrogen as a transport fuel for over ten years.

A current example is the GenH2 Truck concept presented today.

We will continue to provide strong support for the development of climate-friendly transmissions and innovations in and for Germany.

This will include, but will not be limited to, significantly expand vehicle financing. '' Daimler Trucks also unveiled a battery-only long-haul truck, the Mercedes-Benz eActros LongHaul, designed for transportation on plannable routes. and be efficient from an energy point of view, taking advantage of a range of about 500 km between recharges.

Daimler Trucks expects to have the LongHaul eActros ready for series production in 2024. Together with the Mercedes-Benz eActros for distribution - which was already presented in 2018 and has since been extensively tested by customers in daily delivery operations or service - Daimler Trucks will begin series production of a purely battery-powered heavy-duty truck next year.

The range of series-produced eActros with a single battery charge will significantly exceed that of the prototype's approximately 200 kilometers.

Daimler Trucks is pursuing similar vehicle programs for the North American and Japanese markets.

By 2022, Daimler Trucks' portfolio in its main sales regions - Europe, the United States and Japan - will include series-produced vehicles with battery electric drive.

The company also has an ambition to offer only new vehicles that are CO2 neutral in operation ('tank to wheel') in Europe, North America and Japan.As a new global modular platform architecture, the so-called ePowertrain will be the basis. technology of all Daimler Trucks trucks, all electric and medium and heavy, with zero CO2 emissions, powered exclusively by batteries or hydrogen.

based on fuel cells.

It will feature high levels of performance, efficiency and durability.

With the ePowertrain, Daimler Trucks expects to achieve synergies and economies of scale for all relevant vehicles and markets.
