Italy allows spectators - 13,000 fans in Formula 1 possible

9.10 a.m.:

At the Formula 1 race in Imola, Italy at the beginning of November, 13,147 spectators could be there.

The President of Emilia Romagna, Stefano Bonaccini, signed a corresponding exemption on Friday evening, according to the Ansa news agency.

Italy's Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora had previously announced that spectators would be allowed again at outdoor sports events.

The Serie A games in Emilia-Romagna can now take place again in front of up to 1000 spectators.

For Formula 1, it was said that the organizers had to present a corresponding hygiene concept.

This should include compliance with distance rules, mandatory wearing of mouth and nose protection, access controls and disinfection.

When the audience arrives and leaves, large gatherings of people should be avoided and the data of the people should be stored for two weeks.

In Serie A, the announcement by Emilia-Romagna already applies to the two games Parma Calcio against SSC Napoli and Sassuolo Calcio against Cagliari Calcio on Sunday.

It was initially unclear whether fans would actually come to the matches in the Italian soccer championship.

"Lega Serie A is asking, out of the respect that our industry and our fans deserve, that there be clarity about the opening of the stadiums as soon as possible," said Serie A managing director Luigi De Siervo.

The current situation is "surreal", there is chaos.

The league starts the new season with seven games on the weekend.

Spadafora had declared that the audience could now return, but only explicitly mentioned the tennis tournament in Rome.

Philologists 'Association: Parents' evenings are important, especially in times of corona

7.55 a.m.:

From the point of view of the German Philologist Association, parents' evenings are important, especially in times of corona.

There is a great need for coordination, said the chairwoman of the association, Susanne Lin-Klitzing, of the German Press Agency in Berlin.

Whether a digital parents' evening is a good alternative must always be weighed up.

"Where parents do not yet know each other, where parent representatives are elected, a digital parents 'evening is probably not a good substitute. Where digital possibilities are available and consent has been established, experience should be gained with digital parents' evenings."

Ilka Hoffmann, GEW board member for the school sector, finds online parents' evenings difficult.

"Some parents cannot technically cope with a video conference. Even among teachers, the skills are very different. That also excludes some people," she said.

A parents' evening at any price is not needed in Corona times.

"Parents' evenings are primarily intended to provide information. And otherwise not all parents always come."

A well-worded and clearly understandable letter might be enough.

"And if someone has any questions, he calls."

Despite the high number of infections: Rio wants to let fans into the Maracana

7.00 a.m.:

In the midst of the corona pandemic, the city administration of the Brazilian metropolis Rio de Janeiro wants to let soccer spectators into the famous Maracanã Stadium again.

"On October 4th we will have the first game of the Brazilian championship after the pandemic with fans," said Rio's Mayor Marcelo Crivella in a press conference on Friday.

According to the schedule, the match between Flamengo Rio de Janeiro and Athletico Paranaense will take place on that day.

According to Mayor Crivella, 20,000 spectators, a third of the full capacity of the Maracanã, will be allowed.

The Brazilian Football Association (CBF) has yet to agree.

"We will make an appeal to the CBF," said Crivella.

The biggest problem in Rio de Janeiro today is perhaps the large gatherings of people without masks on the beach.

"20,000 people in Maracanã are 20,000 fewer people on the beach."

Especially on weekends, it's hard to get city residents to stay home.

Then beaches and bars fill up.

Brazil, along with the USA and India, is one of the countries hardest hit by Corona.

The country now has 4.5 million infected and more than 135,000 dead.

According to data from the government of the state of Rio de Janeiro, the city of Rio had 97,612 infected people as of Friday, and 10,449 patients had died.

Nevertheless, Rio had already pushed ahead with the resumption of play in the regional championship, which had led to protests and postponements.

This time the SC Corinthians threatened not to play in the championship if only spectators were allowed in Rio.

Again demonstrations against corona measures planned

5.45 a.m.:

Demonstrations are planned for this weekend in several cities in Germany.

In Berlin, the so-called March for Life is planned on Saturday, which is directed against abortions.

5000 participants are expected.

The opposing position wants to represent an alliance for sexual self-determination.

1500 demonstrators are expected here.

A bicycle demonstration around the city center begins in the afternoon.

In Hamburg, the group "lateral thinking 40" called for a rally on Saturday afternoon to demonstrate for the lifting of the corona measures.

Around 950 participants are expected.

Leftists want to move through the posh district of Pöseldorf, among other things, in the evening under the motto "If you have, you give".

Similar demos are planned in Berlin and Hanover.

In Frankfurt am Main, the demand for the opening of brothels and other prostitution establishments in Hesse is the focus of a rally.

A demonstration is then planned.

A demonstration against the corona measures has been announced in Düsseldorf on Sunday.

The police are preparing for up to 10,000 participants.

There are also plans to demonstrate in Berlin on Sunday - on the subject of refugees.

An alliance consisting of Pro Asyl and Seebrücke Berlin, among others, calls for the evacuation of all Greek camps after the fire in Moria.

3,000 demonstrators are registered with the police.

First trade fair after the Corona break starts

5.45 a.m.:

With the "Interboot", a trade fair begins again on Lake Constance for the first time on Saturday after a month-long Corona break.

The event on the topic of water sports will take place from September 19 to 27 at the Friedrichshafen Exhibition Center with a different planning and a protection and hygiene concept.

Among other things, only up to 8,500 visitors per day are allowed to visit the site.

The number of exhibitors at around 200 is also significantly lower than in the previous year (468).

Nevertheless, trade fair boss Klaus Wellmann said that the first event since the ban in spring is being viewed with optimism.

The program includes a sailing regatta on Lake Constance, seminars on stand-up paddling and the use of life jackets, and exercises in maneuvering boat trailers.

According to the German Boat and Shipbuilding Association, the industry will feel "tailwind" before the start of the fair.

For German manufacturers, the number of orders and sales rose sharply in the months after the start of the corona pandemic.

The fact that trade fairs are now possible again is "extremely important," says the association's managing director, Claus-Ehlert Meyer: "That's where we make a large part of our sales.

Almost 2300 new corona infections in Germany: highest value since the end of April

5.23 a.m.:

The number of new infections with the coronavirus has again clearly exceeded the threshold of 2000 and reached the highest value since the end of April.

Within one day, the health authorities in Germany reported 2,297 new corona infections, as the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Saturday morning.

The peak of new infections reported daily was at more than 6000 at the end of March / beginning of April.

The number then tended to fall and rose again in July.

In August the number of cases was just over 2000 (2034).

The number of new infections detected also depends on how many people are tested.

According to the RKI figures, at least 270,070 people in Germany have been proven to have been infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus since the start of the corona crisis (data as of September 19, 12.00 a.m.).

According to the RKI, the number of deaths in connection with a corona infection is 9384. Six more deaths have been reported since the previous day.

According to RKI estimates, around 239,800 people had survived the infection by Thursday morning.

According to RKI estimates in Germany, according to the management report on Friday, the number of reproductions, or R value for short, was 1.16 (previous day: 1.07).

This means that one infected person infects a little more than one other person on average.

The R-value depicts the infection rate about one and a half weeks beforehand.

In addition, the RKI gives a so-called seven-day R in its current situation report.

The value relates to a longer period and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations.

According to RKI estimates, this value was 1.21 (previous day: 1.15).

It shows the infection process from eight to 16 days ago.

Media report: Italy's Serie A is losing a million euros a day

5.12 a.m.:

Because of the corona pandemic and the absence of spectators, the Italian soccer series A lost one million euros a day.

This is the result of an analysis by the Milan business newspaper Sole 24 Ore.

While the 20 Italian first division clubs ended the 2018/19 season with losses of 275 million euros, a deficit of 350 million euros is expected for the 2019/20 season.

The Serie A clubs are said to have spent 1.6 billion euros on player salaries alone.

In the 2018/19 season, the clubs had earned 300 million euros from ticket sales.

Because of the lockdown and the resumption of the season without spectators, the first division clubs now have to deal with high revenue losses.

The league is therefore increasing the pressure on the government in Rome so that, as in Germany, at least 20 percent of the seats in the stadiums can be filled from mid-October.

Firecracker ban due to Corona: Cities are still planning New Year's Eve

5.00 a.m.:

Many German cities are still planning to celebrate the turn of the year.

This was the result of a survey by the German Press Agency among town halls in 16 large cities.

Some of them want to set up local prohibition zones for firecrackers beyond the regulations regulated at the federal level.

However, so far only Rostock has expressly justified such considerations with the coronavirus pandemic.

In Berlin, according to the Senate Department for the Interior, fireworks prohibition zones are to be designated around the Brandenburg Gate and also in two other parts of the city.

Hanover, too, would "almost certainly" impose a ban on carrying and burning fireworks in certain areas of the city center, it said.

In Hamburg, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Wiesbaden and Munich, authorities have not yet finally clarified whether the gunfire will be additionally restricted.

US health agency withdraws recommendation for fewer tests

1.26 a.m.:

The US health authority CDC has withdrawn its controversial recommendation to reduce coronavirus tests in people without symptoms.

In an update of the CDC guidelines on Friday it is now again said that they should also be tested if they have had contact with infected people.

The CDC amended the document on August 24, stating that a test is not absolutely necessary in these cases if you have no symptoms - except for people who belonged to risk groups.

This assessment came under heavy criticism from experts.

The CDC is now going into their arguments.

Since there is a significant risk of coronavirus transmission by people without symptoms of illness, tests are also necessary for them, it is expressly stated in a "clarification".

Media report: Vaccine distribution should be regulated by the end of October

1:16 a.m.:

Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) wants to regulate the distribution of future corona vaccines in Germany by the end of October, according to a media report.

To this end, doctors, ethics experts and social scientists should develop principles, reported the newspapers of the Funke media group (Saturday edition), citing government circles.

In addition to members of the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) at the Robert Koch Institute, the group of experts will also include researchers from the Leopoldina National Academy of Sciences and members of the German Ethics Council.

The reason for the step is that the question of distribution, given the initially scarce vaccine doses, has not only a medical, but also an ethical and socio-political dimension, the report says.

The distribution concept should be defined in detail when a specific vaccine is approved and its possible specific effect on individual population groups is known.

Spahn had advocated several times that people with previous illnesses, older people and employees in health care and nursing should be given a chance.

The federal government has announced that it will support the development of a corona vaccine by German companies with 750 million euros.

Worldwide there are currently nine vaccine candidates against the novel coronavirus in the third and final test phase.

In this phase, the drug is tested on thousands of people.

OSCE reduces number of observers in US election because of corona

00.30 a.m.:

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) will deploy around 40 election observers in the US election in November - instead of the originally planned 500. The reason for the reduction is the corona pandemic, according to a revised report by the organization emerges.

"We had originally planned to send a full-fledged election observation mission, but the security concerns and travel restrictions as a result of the corona pandemic pose new challenges for all of our activities relating to elections," said Katya Andrusz, spokeswoman for the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights in Warsaw.

The OSCE had therefore had problems recruiting observers from its member states for the November 3rd election.

In July, an OSCE pre-election report said that 400 observers should be used on election day and 100 for longer-term controls.

Meanwhile, the new plan calls for only 30 long-term observers and a team of OSCE analysts, legal experts and media specialists to thoroughly examine the electoral process before, during and after the voting.

Observations in the polling stations are not planned.

In the US, voting will take place on November 3rd.

Republican incumbent Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden face each other in the battle for the presidency.

In addition, the voters can decide on the composition of the Congress.
