In front of the Special Assize Court in Paris, this Monday, the projected images and the story of the boss of the anti-terrorism section of the brigade

Black puffer jacket with fur hood, sports bag on the shoulder and Kalashnikov over the shoulder, Amedy Coulibaly appears in front of the glass doors of the Hyper Cacher at the Porte de Vincennes (20th century).

It is 1:05 p.m.

A handful of seconds later, he points his gun and fires: Yohan Cohen, one of the employees, collapses, while three customers manage to escape, fleeting silhouettes on the store's CCTV footage ...

Projected this Monday morning at the Special Assize Court, which judges 14 people for their logistical support in the attacks of January 2015, the series of pictures allows to retrace, to the nearest second, the facts and actions of Amedy Coulibaly this after - midday of January 9, 2015. And, before their testimonies scheduled for Tuesday, to touch the fear experienced for more than four hours by the 17 hostages of the jihadist.

Noémie, hostage of the Hyper Cacher: "Every minute was endless"

“In a quarter of an hour, we have four people shot.

»In a clear, didactic tone, Christian Deau, former boss of the anti-terrorism section of the criminal brigade, comments on the images, supplemented by a description of the film made by the terrorist himself, using a camera portable.

Everything is going very quickly that day, confirms the investigator.

In the photos, we can see a movement of panic, customers rushing to the ground, hoping to find an emergency exit.

"Cruelty and cold determination in the criminal act"

At 1:08 p.m., Coulibaly calls out to a customer.

" What's your name ?

He asks her.

"Philippe".

"Philippe how?

"" Philippe Braham ".

The man is killed at close range.

Then Coulibaly asks to lower the iron curtain, but François-Michel Saada rushes into the Hyper Cacher despite the protests of a cashier.

He is shot in the back as he tries to turn around.

With the store closed and barricaded, the trap closes on the hostages.

Some of them, including one carrying a 21-month-old baby, manage to hide in a cold room in the store.

Upstairs, Yoav Hattab, seeing a Kalashnikov lying on sacks of flour, grabs it, but the weapon jams.

Immediate response.

It is 1:21 p.m .: the 21-year-old Tunisian is Coulibaly's fourth victim.

On the ground, the jihadist's first target, Yohan Cohen dies for long minutes.

Claiming to be inconvenienced by his moans, Coulibaly pushes sadism until consulting the hostages to know if he should finish it ... which they will refuse, of course.

"There is a cruelty and a cold determination in the criminal act", notes Régis de Jorna, the president of the court.

Hyper Cacher attack: "That day, I had to die"

Several hours follow, during which Coulibaly tries to "control communication", details Christian Deau.

Connected to three 24-hour news channels, he even got in touch with BFMTV, "to have the banners corrected".

During a surreal exchange of a few minutes broadcast this Monday at the beginning of the afternoon, we hear a Coulibaly, sure of himself, proudly claiming "four deaths", knowingly committed in a store frequented by the Jewish community, and in the name of The Islamic State.

An unprecedented difficulty for the police

Outside, the police are getting organized and trying at all costs to obtain a surrender, at least the release of certain hostages.

But joined by the negotiator, Coulibaly appears “calm, serene, having absolutely no empathy for the people he has just killed.

He is determined and has no difficulty in describing his arsenal, which is never a good sign ”.

“The assault is the last resort,” Christian Deau recalls, but it soon emerges as the only way out.

The police are then faced with an unprecedented difficulty: 40 km away, the Kouachi brothers, are themselves entrenched in a printing plant in Dammartin-en-Goële (Seine-et-Marne) after a run of two days.

However Amedy Coulibaly, who claims to have trapped the Hyper Cacher with explosives - we find in his bag 20 sticks of dynamite, likely "to cause a collapse of the building" - threatens to execute his hostages if something happens to Saïd and Chérif Kouachi.

“At the time, it was the height of the difficulties that a hostage-taking intervention service had ever encountered,” Christian Deau soberly sums up.

At 5:09 p.m., the choice was made to storm both sites simultaneously.

Alerted by the noise, Amedy Coulibaly rushes forward, shooting at the police, who shoot him down at the entrance to the Hyper Cacher.

It is 5:12 p.m.

In the last picture, the one who wanted to "die as a martyr" lies on his back, arms outstretched, his body riddled with bullets despite his tactical vest.
