Early curfew for UK pubs and restaurants
02:14 a.m.:
The corona crisis in Great Britain is getting worse.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson responds with tightened protective measures.
Pubs and restaurants should close by 10 p.m. on Thursday at the latest, as the government announced on Monday evening.
In addition, only table service will be allowed.
Johnson wants to address the British with a speech today to make them aware of the seriousness of the situation and to remind them of the applicable distance and hygiene rules.
The number of infections is rising rapidly across the UK: In the past few days, 3,500 to 4,000 new cases have been added almost daily, and the number of infections has roughly doubled within seven days.
If the virus continues to spread unhindered at the same pace, the UK could count nearly 50,000 cases a day by mid-October, leading health experts warn.
Opera in Madrid defends itself against allegations of lax
Corona
measures
02.08 a.m.:
The Teatro Real opera house in Madrid is confronted with severe criticism for allegedly negligent corona rules.
After a performance on Sunday evening was massively disrupted by protesting spectators, the renowned opera house defended itself against the allegations.
The Teatro Real has observed the Corona requirements imposed by the Madrid regional government and "even reinforced" them, said the opera's head of administration, Gregorio Marañón, on Monday.
The performance of Giuseppe Verdi's "A Masked Ball" was disturbed by some viewers in protest against the fact that they thought they were sitting too close together, as was seen in web videos, by constant clapping and heckling.
The performance was then canceled.
The protests came from the furthest and therefore cheapest spectator rows.
The videos showed that almost every seat there was occupied.
In the front, more expensive rows, however, many seats were empty.

1:50 a.m.:
Now the first German national soccer player has also been hit: Ilkay Gündogan has tested positive for the corona virus, as his Manchester City club announced on Monday.
The 29-year-old now has to go into quarantine for ten days.
"Everyone at the club wishes Ilkay a speedy recovery," said the official Manchester City statement.
In the evening, the team won their season opener at Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 (2-0) even without the national player.
The team had already reported two corona cases at the beginning of September: Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte.
In general, the UK is recording worrying numbers of corona infections.
As the government announced on its website, it recorded 3899 new cases on Sunday alone.
