Actually, the inventor of the automobile should also deserve the title of oldest automobile brand in the world.
But it doesn't even take subtleties to ascribe this superlative to another brand.
Many historians attribute the invention of the automobile to Carl Benz and his patent car developed in the 1880s.
Quite a few therefore believe that Mercedes-Benz * is therefore the oldest car brand in the world.
But
it was not until 1926
that Daimler and Benz joined forces and only then did they use the Mercedes-Benz brand name for their vehicles.
It's the oldest car brand in the world
The
French car maker Peugeot
is considered the oldest still existing car brand
.
The company was founded in 1810
and is therefore celebrating its 210th anniversary this year.
The lion brand was brought into being by the brothers Jean-Frédéric and Jean-Pierre Peugeot when they set up an iron foundry.
Later, the Peugeot company, which did not introduce the lion logo until 1858, produced hardware, corset straps and watch springs.
From the second half of the 19th century, pepper mills, phonographs and bicycles were added.
