The man accused of raping a septuagenarian near Saumur, also suspected of having kidnapped and raped a nine-year-old girl in Vienne, was indicted, the Angers prosecutor said on Thursday.
"He was indicted Wednesday evening for aggravated rape, extortion and theft with weapons in recidivism, and placed in pretrial detention", declared Eric Bouillard.
This 31-year-old man, without a fixed address, had recognized all of the charges in Maine-et-Loire, rape and several thefts, the prosecutor said on Wednesday.
He must now be heard by the Poitiers investigators on the facts committed in Vienne.
Very unfavorably known to the police services, with 18 convictions, he was notably sentenced in 2018 to four years in prison for manslaughter in a road traffic case and was released in December 2019, according to the Angers prosecutor.

According to the same source, he struck late Friday afternoon at a 74-year-old woman in Varennes-sur-Loire (Maine-et-Loire), near Saumur, which opened to him.
He raped her and then left with “this lady's car and means of payment”, who “gave a very precise description” of the attacker.
Sunday, in Varennes (Vienne), the man is suspected of having kidnapped a nine-year-old girl who left the bakery, of having put it in the trunk of his car before driving her to a nearby field.
He hit her in the face, raped her and drove away without her.

The man, whose robot portrait had been released by the police, was finally arrested Monday in Saumur in a car in the company of a 27-year-old man.
Excluded, the latter must however be prosecuted for a refusal to comply, according to the prosecutor's office in Angers.
