For Tesla boss Elon Musk, visions can always be a little bigger.
When the entrepreneur started his eagerly anticipated "Battery Day" on Tuesday of this week, he first showed a photo of San Francisco in the red light of the fires in early September, followed by the planet's steeply rising temperature curve.
The entrepreneur talked about saving the world.
And Musk already had the solution ready how to do it: with batteries.
"Roughly speaking, we need 20 to 25 terawatt hours of battery production per year for the next 15 to 25 years to make the transition of the world to renewable energies," he calculated.
That is more than 100 times as much production capacity as today.
Who will develop the technology for it?
Well who already!
Musk.

"We're trying to reinvent every aspect of battery production, from mining the ores to the finished battery," the electric visionary told his audience.
He presented the plans at Tesla's factory site in Fremont, California, together with his chief engineer Drew Baglino.
Musk and Baglino came in a black partner look and, due to the coronavirus, spoke outdoors in front of only around 200 selected Tesla shareholders who stayed in their cars.
While the duo performed on stage like Pennäler researches in youth, the Tesla fans acknowledged Musk's announcements with approving horns.
