Disney fires about 28,000 employees due to the corona crisis

Walt Disney is laying off numerous employees due to the ongoing stresses caused by the corona crisis.

The group is about to lay off around 28,000 employees, said Disney manager Josh D'Amaro in a memo to the employees.

About 67 percent of the employees concerned are part-time employees.

The cancellations hit Disney's amusement parks, vacation resorts and cruises.

These areas were hit hardest by the consequences of the pandemic and have already caused high losses for the group.

In total, Disney had more than 100,000 employees here before the crisis.

A total of almost 143,000 dead in Brazil

12:10 a.m.:

The

corona virus

continues to spread in Brazil.

The Ministry of Health reported 32,058 new infections.

This increases the total number of infections to more than 4.7 million.

The number of deaths rose by 863 to 142,921 within 24 hours.

Brazil has the highest number of infections and deaths worldwide in the coronavirus pandemic after the USA and India.

Spahn: "The virus is the spoilsport here, not me or us in politics"

Federal Health

Minister

Jens Spahn has defended the tightening of state restrictions in the corona pandemic agreed by the federal and state governments - such as the permitted size of parties and fines for fake names on guest lists.

In view of the increasing number of infections, it is not the time for further major relaxation, said the CDU politician on Tuesday evening in the ZDF "heute-journal".

In society, in the catering trade as well as when traveling and in leisure time, there is currently the greatest risk of infection.

"The virus is the spoilsport here, not me or us in politics," said Spahn.

A differentiation of state restrictions according to regions and according to the specific infection situation on site is still useful, said Spahn.

Otherwise the acceptance of the population would be lost.

He called on citizens to examine their behavior for themselves.

Everyone could consider whether now, in the middle of the pandemic, is the time for a bigger family celebration.

Freedom does not mean that everyone can do what they want.

Everyone is responsible for the people around them.

"It won't work with government coercion alone," he said.

In view of the persistently high Corona numbers, the federal and state governments are introducing stricter rules immediately before the autumn holidays: There is now a threat of a fine of at least 50 euros if restaurant visitors provide incorrect information about themselves in guest lists.

"Incorrect personal information is not a trivial offense," said Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) on Tuesday after the consultations with the state prime ministers.

If the number of infections increases in counties, there should be local restrictions on the number of participants in private celebrations.

The federal and state governments appealed to citizens to be particularly careful now, also because a flu season is looming in autumn and winter.
