The fifth generation network (5G) began operating in Israel today (Tuesday), after the Ministry of Communications granted licenses to operate frequencies to communications companies.

Initially, the network will operate through Pelephone, HOT mobile and Partner - the only operators that met the conditions of the license, when initially more than 250 antennas were deployed in various locations around the country.

The network has been active for more than two months, but only this morning were the licenses issued by the Ministry of Communications to providers who met the conditions for receiving the license that allows them to pick up the switch.

Now, all customers in Israel can access relevant packages, if they have 5G-enabled devices.

"We are in the midst of one of the severe crises that befell the State of Israel, most social processes during the Corona are based on communication infrastructures and can only be sustainable with advanced communication infrastructures. MK Yoaz Handel.

"From the first moment I entered the office I knew this would be the mission. To march the country forward by accelerating the deployment of advanced communications and mobile communications infrastructure. I am proud of the accelerated processes done in the office, both in the fiber revolution already underway and in Generation 5," Handel added.

The ministry's director general, Liran Avishar Ben-Horin, said that Israel is at the dawn of a new era today.

"The retirement of the 5th generation in the State of Israel will enable the production of growth engines and lead to the advancement of industry, high-tech, smart cities and IoT technology. The achievement is more important than ever these days.

Ran Gurion, CEO of Pelephone, said that "this is a historic day in the media market; this is just the beginning and we will continue to invest in the development of the network in the coming years, and realize the great technological news that is brought to the public in Israel today." "Thank you to the Minister of Communications, Yoaz Handel, and to the director general of the ministry, Liran Avishar Ben-Horin.

Investing in the most advanced infrastructure in fiber optics and generation 5 is part of our strategy to provide our customers with up to gigabytes of surfing with Partner 5G both at home and on mobile. "

Ilan Brock, CEO of HOT mobile, noted that “HOT mobile is excited to advance to the fifth generation and be one of the first to launch the new network.

We thank the Minister of Communications and his office for receiving the license and are excited to launch and launch the fifth generation consumer. "

Pros and cons

Unlike the fourth generation, the new technology will allow the same amount of information to be transmitted only at a much higher speed - as in optical fiber.

In fact, the new technology will be so fast that it will allow us to switch home Internet based on cellular infrastructure.

This means that you will no longer have disconnections because the wind dropped a branch on the cable in the winter, and you will be able to watch 4K content without a problem.

For example, Partner conducted a laboratory experiment about two months ago and managed to reach a speed of 1 GB (1,000 MB), the same speed that the company's fiber optic infrastructure provides - and requires physical connection and advanced equipment.

The companies Pelephone and HOT mobile also reached a similar result.

On the other hand, at the beginning of the year, conspiracy theorists in Israel and around the world formed violent protests that tried to link the new network to the spread of the virus and other health dangers.

Dozens of cellular antennas were set on fire around the world and technicians were attacked while installing the facilities.

Following the exceptional cases and the global storm surrounding the deployment of the network, the World Health Organization and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) have ruled in an official statement issued last week that there is no link between 5G and the outbreak of the corona virus.
