Covid-19: Paris suspended until Monday

2020-10-01T20:20:53.168Z

In Lille, Lyon, Grenoble, Toulouse and Saint-Étienne, the evolution of the pandemic is considered "very worrying" by the Minister of Health, who relies on dialogue.

A week after a turn of the screw which is still difficult to pass, especially in Marseille, the executive has decided to give itself time to assess the effectiveness of the restrictions already imposed before going further.

During his weekly press briefing organized Thursday evening at Bichat hospital in Paris, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, therefore gave a reprieve to the large metropolises where the circulation of the virus particularly worries the health authorities.

But for Paris, this reprieve could be short-lived, because the capital already ticks all the boxes to switch to

"maximum alert zone"

, like Marseille and Guadeloupe.

The thresholds of the three key indicators are in fact crossed: the incidence rate reached 263 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over seven days, and that for 60-69 year olds amounted to 133 cases, according to a report transmitted Thursday by the ARS Île-de-France.

In addition, 34% of the 1,200 beds available in intensive care are occupied in the region.

"This crossing of the thresholds, we have only observed it for a few hours,

" explained the minister.

We need to confirm this in the coming days, but if this were to be confirmed, we would have no other choice but to place Paris and the inner suburbs in the maximum alert zone. ”

So, if the momentum did not change on Sunday, the switch could take place as early as Monday.

It will then be necessary to restrict

“drastically”

social interactions, warned Olivier Véran:

“No more family celebrations.

No more parties.

Total closure of bars. "

However, he was less categorical on the restaurants which could, after consultation with the representatives of the sector, remain open

"with reinforced sanitary rules"

.

These measures could apply to all territories in

"maximum alert zone"

, including Marseille, he said, assuring that there would be no

"differential treatment"

between the capital and the City. phocaean.

The situation could also become more complicated for five metropolises placed in

“enhanced alert zones”

since September 23.

In Lille, Lyon, Grenoble, Toulouse and Saint-Étienne, the situation is deteriorating, warned the minister:

"We could be led next week to place these territories in the maximum alert zone."

With all the restrictions that this implies

.

In the classification of the territories, there are only 29 departments in "green zone", and three new ones pass in "zone of alert": Yonne, Corrèze and Hautes-Alpes.

"Your efforts will pay off"

The Minister of Health in any case called not to

"be discouraged"

:

"Your efforts (...) will pay off."

Moreover, he added,

“I can tell you that we are starting to see a shudder (…).

Certainly shy, but it matters.

I am thinking in particular of Bordeaux, Nice or even Marseille. ”

Cities where the incidence rate has been falling for a few days.

At the national level, the indicators remain worrying, with a test positivity rate of 7.6%, against 4% in early September.

More than 1,200 Covid patients are currently in intensive care, according to Public Health France.

This is certainly much less than the peak of the epidemic in April, when there were 7,000, but twice as many as in early September.
