American-Jewish poet Louise Glick is the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature 2020, which was announced today (Thursday) at the Swedish Academy in Stockholm.
In their reasoning, the judges said that the award is given to Glick "for her poetic voice in an unmistakable way, which with meticulous beauty makes private existence universal."
Glick, 77, has won dozens of other awards in the past, including the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry.
In 1999 she was asked to serve as a special advisor for the Library of Congress.
Her book of poems "Iris Haber" published in Hebrew by Carmel.
For winning the Nobel Prize, Glick will receive 10 million Swedish kronor (approximately NIS 3.8 million). The traditional ceremony that takes place in December will be held virtually this year due to the corona plague.

Last year, two writers won at once for the years 2018 and 2019: the Polish writer Olga Tokarczuk and the Austrian writer and playwright Peter Handke, respectively.
The reason for the double award is that in 2018 the prestigious award was canceled for the first time since 1943, following a crisis that erupted in the Swedish academy and affected, among other things, sexual assaults and the resignation of academy members.
A year earlier, in the wake of the MeToo movement, allegations of rape were exposed by the Swedish-French photographer Jean-Claude Arno, married to the poet Katrina Frostenson, who was one of the members of the academy.
The couple ran a cultural club in Stockholm that was partly funded by the academy, and some of the sexual assaults he carried out took place on the spot.
Arno was convicted in court of rape, and was also charged with leaking the names of Nobel laureates.
Frostenson left the academy due to the affair and then other academy members resigned, including the one who headed it, Prof. Sarah Danius.
Seven new academy members have since been appointed.
Following the crisis, the prize was canceled last year, and as a result, two winners were announced this year - this year and last year.
The Nobel Prize for Literature is awarded by the Swedish Academy (almost) every year since 1901 to a writer who has created "the most extraordinary work with an idealistic tendency".
In 2017 he won the award for British writer Kazuo Ishoguro, and before that the award was surprisingly given to American singer and songwriter Bob Dylan.
The only Israeli to win the prize is SY Agnon. It was awarded to him in 1966 alongside the German poet Nelly Zakash.
