Joël Le Scouarnec is indicted for rape and sexual assault concerning 312 victims, mainly minors, indicates this Thursday the prosecutor of the Republic of Lorient, Stéphane Kellenberger.
These are acts committed between 1986 and 2014 by the former surgeon in several establishments in France.
The prosecutor also announced that a judicial investigation is open in particular for rape and sexual assault on minors under 15 years committed between 1986 and 2014 by the former surgeon in different establishments.
He finally announced the opening of a preliminary investigation against X on "count of voluntary abstention from preventing crimes or offenses against physical integrity" in order to determine whether third parties could have been aware of the surgeon's actions and would have refrained from denouncing them.
265 victims under 15
Of the 349 potential victims identified at the outset of this case, 312 were selected.
Some 26 situations in particular were prescribed, and for five others the facts appeared "impossible to sufficiently characterize", explained the prosecutor.
Of the 312 victims selected, 164 are male, 148 female.
298 are under 20 years old including 265 under 15 years old, detailed the prosecutor.

Joël Le Scouarnec was extracted from Saintes (Charente-maritime) prison on Tuesday morning to be taken into police custody in Lorient (Morbihan) in connection with this case.
He must appear from November 30 before the Assize Court of Charente-Maritime for other facts alleged against him.
