Actor and director Yehuda Barkan, who died on Tuesday from Corona, has encountered several difficult financial difficulties throughout his life.

In the past, he declared bankruptcy due to debts and entanglement with the gray market, and even admitted and was convicted of evading income in the amount of NIS 1.6 million from the tax authorities.

But it turns out he failed to recover from the crisis, and Walla!

Culture learned that even in his last years he was often in financial distress, during which he often asked for help from "Clusters" - the Society for the Rights of Performing Artists in Israel.

The beloved player received grants from the company worth at least tens of thousands of shekels cumulatively from the company.

The distress continued right up until his hospitalization - when Barkan received his last grant a month before he passed away.

"Barkan was in a very bad economic situation even before the corona, and the corona exacerbated it. Expenditures outweighed revenues significantly," reveals an industry insider.

"It got to the point where clusters got foreclosures from various entities on funds that were about to be distributed to it in clusters."

Tuvia Tzafir, a member of the Cluster Audit Committee, who was a member of Barkan and played alongside him in "Snooker Celebration," confirmed to Walla!

A culture in Barkan has sought financial assistance from society in light of its financial problems.

"Judah could have been based from the 1970s and 1980s, in which he made dozens of films and some truly mythological, to the present day. His economic problem stemmed from his ambitions to advance, and also to invest in films, produce and direct. In this country, with the local industry, "It falls to you, you get into trouble. That's why he needed help, and it's very good that the organizations, which we were able to set up, are helping."

His financial distress in his last years is the last link in a chain of difficulties and financial problems.

In 1993, Barkan declared bankruptcy following debts accrued after the box office failure of a film he produced, and after getting into debt with the gray market.

In May 2011, Barkan reached a plea agreement with the State Attorney's Office, in which he admitted and was convicted of four offenses of using fraud, deception and trickery, in violation of the Income Tax Ordinance, and with evading income of NIS 1.6 million between 1999 and 2002.

The Rehovot Magistrate's Court sentenced him to six months of community service, a year of probation and a fine of NIS 100,000.

Roi Barkan, the son of Yehuda Barkan, told Walla!

Culture: "In recent years Dad's financial situation was not alarming. Dad was in a state of survival. In the past he had a lot of losses from movies and he had to ask for money from the underworld. There were movies that won, and there were movies that lost. If he was in Hollywood he was a multi-millionaire but We're in a small country, even when you make a movie or a series you earn so that you have enough to survive, and that's it. Even when it was hard Dad kept a smile, optimism and always looked at the half full glass. "To God, and that's how we remember him. In addition, Dad taught me that if a beggar reaches out to you, you should never let him take your hand without giving him something. Even when Dad had nothing to give, he gave charity."

Director Boaz Davidson, who directed Barkan in the films "Charlie and a Half," "Snooker Celebration," "Lupo in New York" as well as in the thriller "Eat Look," told Walla!

Culture: "The truth is I was not aware of it. It's sad, and awful that an artist gets into a situation where he needs help. It's awful. When I talk about Judah, I see Judah in those days who played the characters of Charlie and Gavri, was a star, and also alive. "Like a star. I remember in those days no actor had his own office and secretary. And Judah had. He lives big. I'm still digesting his death. It's hard."

Meanwhile, Tuvia Tzafir added and paid tribute to his good friend: "I met Yehuda at the beginning of my career, even before the movies, in a military band. I was in the Nahal band and he was in the Northern Command band, we were both the stars of our bands.

This acquaintance has shifted to social.

In our group were the stars of those years, who usually came from the military bands, the late Yigal Bashan, the late Manny Peer, Yigal Shilon and Israel Gottesdiner were a bad couple.

We were a bunch who sometimes spent until the wee hours of the night, not at drug parties but having fun, each returning from his show, meeting in one of the houses and celebrating quite intensely.

"" In the 70's we started looking at Judah with admiration because he was the star in the US The knowledge of Israeli cinema, the revered and heartbreaking man. He reached the status of lead actor in almost all the films he played, and also reached the status of partner of Gila Almagor, the queen of cinema. Then Shefer Mazli and we met in the mythological film 'Snooker Celebration', where he played a double role Twins are identical but completely different in character. He rightly won this status of Israeli film star mainly in the seventies and eighties because of his talent. He had a natural talent of a film actor. The camera immediately fell in love with him, and his charisma shouts from the big screen and the small screen. "Seeing him in the series 'Yellow Peppers' in a great role and in his latest film, 'Love in the Likes' - he breathed and was a filmmaker."

"Because I recovered from the corona, I was sure Judah would get out of it too. I wanted to encourage him but his son said he could not be talked to because he is anesthetized and respirated. We monitored his condition through his son on a daily basis. We are very hurt. It is a bunch that really had an affection between "Everyone. I did not believe that the disease would overwhelm him, and now I am beginning to worry because they say that the corona can return a second time. Judah made mythological films, in history he will always remain in a place of honor in the Israeli cinema pantheon, and new actors should take an example."
