Each Gippon will be able to take you to lovely desert corners, away from the crowds

In the late afternoon we woke up slowly from a deep sleep; it was cool, it was nice to lie down a little more under the pampering blanket. After the scorching heat of the prairie fried our brains; so what is it all of a sudden, frozen igloo? The

silhouette of the spiral acacia trees and desert rock cliffs helped me reset, and the distant rumble of the generator reminded me at once - Evil of mosquitoes, flies, and 38 degrees Celsius. What fun. With a sigh of relief we got out of the trailer for a pleasant afternoon, turned off the generator, and sat down to savor our desert solitude.

While we drank coffee in front of the view, three charming and shy deer crossed the creek;

Africa, it's here.

It is important to carefully plan the itinerary, and accommodation points;

The trailer is not suitable for demanding off-road travel

Turn lemons into lemonade

There are trips that are born out of great longing and long-term planning, there are those that are created in times of distress.

Our trip in the yellow trailer was born as soon as we internalized that the corona and quarantine would stay with us for many more months, and that our chances of flying in the near future to Manchester (England), where our motorhome is grounded, are slim.

For a moment an atmosphere of sadness fell on us but it was not long before Dorit announced in a determined voice: we must go on a special trip in the country, to exhaust here what else can be done.

LED lighting makes it easy to get organized at night

For a moment we thought about a month's vacation in the Galilee, we fantasized a bit about a tough field trip, ideas flew through the air.

Suddenly I remembered a picture I had seen some time ago, a photo of a double "bubble" trailer, a cute, friendly and non-threatening trailer.

From here it was a short way to talk to Alon Ben-Abu who rents the caravans.

It turns out that the double trailer is capable of going down to a moderate area (we’ll get back to talking about this point later), and giving you a much more luxurious space than in a regular tent or roof tent.

The concept sounds cool, especially the air conditioner ...

The body angles are better than I feared

What's in the trailer?

Let's not fantasize about a trailer with a spacious living room + bedroom + shower / toilet / trunk for bike storage.

The yellow sleeping capsule contains a double mattress measuring 197X155 cm, and that's it. No table, no chair, just a quality sleeping surface, and really not claustrophobic. The 'Schuss' is a powerful air conditioner that allows you to cool down anywhere, using a 220 volt voltage or a muted generator. There is also a TV with a selection of movies that can be a nice solution for closing the day, or for silencing children in a crisis.

The panorama image is lying, the trailer is not that spacious ... but the sleeping space is very pleasant

Contrary to what one might think when looking at a trailer from the outside, the feeling inside is not crowded at all.

The white ceiling curves high above you and in the evening you can open windows and a door, and stay protected from mosquitoes.

The elevation from the ground will appeal to hikers challenged by creeps and desert reptiles.

At night we slept with a door wide open, the desert view and a plethora of stars peeked at us from outside.

I guess an adult + toddler couple can be accommodated in the trailer, in good comfort.

It is very convenient to stand in the shade of the back door, and cook an invested dinner

The rear door lifts easily with the help of two spring pistons.

The kitchen is ergonomic and very useful: there is a work surface, a sink with an 80-liter water tank, an office 'mini' refrigerator, a microwave (we did not touch), and storage compartments for cooking utensils and products.

The 'wonder gas' stove is very efficient, take spare gas tanks with you.

LED lighting abounds in light for the kitchen or into the capsule, there is also outdoor ‘garden lighting’ and plenty of charging sockets.

The windows and door are well built, solid and completely sealed - this is an Australian product built to a high standard, without dust penetrating inside.

There is also an outdoor shower, great fun at the end of a dusty desert day.

The world is calling us, just connect and travel

The passion of wandering

Since 2009 we have been traveling the world in Motorhome, a hiking style that has become a way of life for me and Dorit.

One might think that the passion for wandering is typical only of the descendants of the 'wandering Jew', or that it stems from the complex period in which we live, corona, politics, and everything you do not want;

But not her, and the trip in the yellow trailer gives me a chance to share with you the insights of John Steinbeck, the renowned American writer.

Steinbeck set out on a trip to the United States in 1960 with a truck camper he called "Rosinante" (named after Don Quixote's elderly mare).

Steinbeck wrote a charming booklet about his adventures called "My Journey with Charlie" - Charlie was his French poodle, a perfect companion to a three-month 'solo' journey.

Every place with a view becomes your private God plot

Steinbeck described the wanderlust well, when he told of people he met during his travels: "I saw in their eyes something I would see in every region of the country - a burning desire to walk, move, set out, anywhere, away from 'here'. They talked about their desire to travel. "One day, walking around in other places, free and without anchor, not towards something, but away from something. I saw that look and heard these longings everywhere and in every country I visited."

The uncontrollable urge to go out and explore the world

This is what Steinbeck said, and we also know these feelings - the yellow trailer is neither 'Rosinante' nor our French motorhome, but it turns out that there is something romantic about it that ignites strong feelings and a longing for wandering.

Hikers and passers-by approached us, asked to peek inside and take photos, got excited about the idea, told us about motorhome tours they had done in the past, or that they had more to do.

The yellow trailer allows you to touch the feeling of wandering without committing to a large investment or a long-term journey;

Just come with the Auto Brewers, connect, and get going.

Brunch at Nahal Tzichur.

You can get camping equipment from Alon, we preferred to use our familiar equipment - table, chairs, refrigerator

A journey in the days of Corona

Now the end of summer, the Galilee scorched and yellow, it was clear that we were sailing south.

We collected the trailer from Efrat, and from there we went down to the shores of the Dead Sea.

The trailer weighs 500 kilograms and can be towed with any family car with a towbar, no Discovery needed.

A regular car will take you to tidy parking lots or tidy kurkar paths, a Jeep or a 4X4 Jeep will take you into more secluded areas as well.

Towards evening it is advisable to settle on the western side of a cliff or thick tree, this will ensure shelter from the morning sun rays

We spent our first nights in a bar-lodge, in the channels of the streams descending to the Arava.

The yellow trailer is defined as an 'off-road trailer', but do not build on an Australian Bush-style offense monster.

The yellow capsule is mounted on a fairly basic chassis, with torsion bars that do not insulate the trailer from road disruptions.

The kitchen is not built to absorb excessive concussions, so you need to find comfortable and very passable desert paths - we found that usually, the streams that go down to the prairie are suitable for the task.

It is important to drive carefully and slowly (think 15-20 km / h), to keep the back of the trailer from hitting the ground. Avoid entering crowded channels, which may require you to retreat in reverse ... No more than that, even a 4X4 crossover will be able to put the trailer in secluded places, for example, its welcoming river.

Kitchen with eighty air directions

It was a long way south but after settling in, we gained a charming and rare feeling of freedom and release.

We spent three nights in the field, and did not meet a single vehicle.

The solitude was perfect, we felt like Robinson Crusoe and enjoyed the treats the trailer provides - in the evening we cooked shakshuka, risotto in mushroom sauce in cream, steaks, fine pasta, fresh salads ... Twice we hit the road to complete shopping at the excellent Market Warehouses.

The rest of the nights we were hospitalized in institutionalized khans, where we connected to a 220-volt domestic current.

The length of time put us in a 'talking time' that benefits the human soul in these tumultuous days - we read, photographed, wrote, wandered a bit on foot, it was great.

Although the trailer is insured against theft and has a wheel lock, we did not dare to abandon it in the field.

The parking at the 'Gypsum Quarry' Khan suited him, secure and cooled

Discard anchor

Not everyone likes to be alone in the crevices of the rock, and we too want to freshen up a bit.

One night we settled in the 'Gypsum Quarry' Khan in Ramon Crater, a place that provides a unique atmosphere, cheap sheds, and an excellent location in the heart of the crater.

After a requested siesta we disengaged from the trailer, and set out to wander the trails of the crater, the Ardon River and the caves.

The next morning we harnessed the house, and headed north.

freedom.

The elderly disco is happy to break free from the trailer cables, and go out for small field trips.

Look what angles the elderly bastard has on a vehicle, they are no longer made that way

Two days earlier we found a lunch shelter in the 'Shirat HaArava' khan in Moshav Tzofar - in the shade of the thick trees we managed to escape the heat of the day.

The southernmost stop was the new caravan park in Timna Park.

The park staff takes advantage of the Corona period to set up mooring stations for private caravans, and we had the honor of inaugurating one of them.

Running water, some electricity, what else do you need?

Timna Park is a geological treasure trove, with amazing views that reminded us of American Moab.

We spent the last night at "Zvika's Farm" in Ruhama's benefits.

In winter and spring the area resembles Tuscany at its best, but now the fields are dry and harvested.

You can get to Zvika with your trailer, or sleep in the trailers that are fixed on the spot.

This is a great place for someone who wants to feel like a farm owner for one day.

At "Zvika's Farm" we went to sleep with geese, chickens, horses and peacocks.

This is a magical place, especially in winter and spring

Is this the perfect vacation solution?

The yellow trailer is a unique platform for hikers looking for a new and pampering experience.

He will not climb up a ravine after you, and I would not dare put him in the pits either.

But it provides a neat and cozy base away from the asphalt, with fine air conditioning, kitchen and shower.

What we lacked was an independent battery, to operate the water pump and lighting;

Without a battery or an external 220 volt you have to run a generator, even for washing dishes or lighting, this is an unnecessary hassle for my taste.

We used the independent lighting and water pump of the Discovery, but these are not solutions available for every hiker.

Alon explained to me that many customers spend their nights in tidy parking lots with 220 volts, but he understands the need for a quiet power supply.

He has already started to engineer an independent battery that will charge from the towing vehicle and once this is fixed, the quality of life in the field will improve significantly.

"Little Moab" in Timna Park

We received a partial solution for electricity supply with the help of 'Energy Bank', which we found at www.auto365.co.il.

This is a serious booster that provides 60,000 mAh, it has plenty of charging and discharging sockets, including a 220 volt socket through which I charged the computer, phones and tablets.

The power bank is also capable of running the water pump and 12 volt refrigerator, if you have one.

Alon rents out some caravans so you can go hiking with another couple as well.

The price of renting the trailer is NIS 500 for the first day, NIS 450 for the second day, NIS 400 for each additional day.

Optional extras for a fee are a generator, poke, extra tent, treat basket, and more.

It's not a small amount of money, but with a weekend budget in a B&B, you can go out for a week - long nature relaxation. For me, this is a cool deal.

Visit the yellow trailer's Facebook page, which has travel stories, recommended routes and a list of parking lots in Israel.

Occasionally special discount promotions also appear.

The crates on the salvage contain the air conditioner engine, a muted generator and fuel tanks

The double trailer can enrich you with a long desert trip, a spontaneous weekend on the beach, a honeymoon or 'Trans-Israel'.

For hikers challenged by creeps and reptiles, the yellow capsule makes the difference between a dream and a nightmare.

Alon will explain to you the limitations of the trailer's offenses, will explain how to get organized with food cooling, toilets, connection and disconnection of the trailer.

Check with Alon what camping equipment he gives you (table, chairs, cooking utensils, etc.), and fill in the gaps with your private equipment.

The maneuvers backwards are a bit confusing at first, but get used to them quickly

You will be surprised to hear but even after decades of motoring journalism, I have no real experience in towing carts or trailers ... I was a little apprehensive at first but very quickly got used to the yellow capsule, which was reflected in my side mirrors.

On the first trip you should avoid entering crowded and challenging places and when driving backwards, be slow and controlled.

Careful work with the side mirrors will solve any problem and this is also the spouse's great hour, which gives the driver rear eyes.

For us, the trip in the yellow trailer was an excellent and different experience than usual.

We are already waiting for winter to embark on a cool and rainy journey, a beautiful reminder of our extinct travels in Europe.
