Dozens of fictitious Twitter accounts that operated during the summer have inflated criticism of Israel on a huge scale in order to prevent the sovereignty move, according to a study conducted by the Ministry of Strategic Affairs.

According to the survey, "the fake accounts managed to generate 9% of the network involvement in relation to the hashtags tested - 180 times their relative size."

In recent months, the Ministry of Strategic Affairs has been focusing its efforts on social networks, as part of a policy change outlined by Minister Farkash-Hacohen.

As part of the change, and towards what was the target date for the sovereignty move, July 1, the ministry checked about 250 Twitter accounts that were suspected of being unreliable.

The investigation revealed that 170 accounts were not authentic, and a complaint about them had already been sent to Twitter.

These fictitious accounts led to a considerable part of the attacks against the course of annexation.

In many cases, the accounts were activated by bots (automated software), and this is evident from the use of uniform language in tweets, 24-hour activity and tweeting on a huge scale.

Following the transfer of the data to Twitter, the company has already deleted 30 accounts, and another 140 are under investigation.

It should be noted that the fictitious accounts also called on the International Court of Justice in The Hague to intervene in the issue and prosecute Israel.

This was done because at the time they believed that the prosecutor in The Hague had ordered the opening of investigations against senior Israeli officials.

The study shows that a significant volume of this activity is also done by bots.

Minister Orit Farkash HaCohen says in response to the revelations: "Social networks are a central arena 'in the battle for consciousness.' "Behind the scenes" in the international arena, and even more so in the digital space, in order to isolate and blacken the State of Israel. "
