The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized in intensive care exceeded the 3,000 mark on Wednesday, a level unprecedented since early May.

The progression of the epidemic in France is confirmed.

372 new admissions in sheave (or intensive care) have been recorded since Tuesday, according to the database of Public Health France.

Taking into account discharges, the number of Covid-19 patients currently in intensive care has increased by 127 in the past 24 hours, bringing their total to 3,036.

Since Tuesday, more than half of the current capacity of resuscitation services - which do not only welcome Covid patients - has been occupied by Covid-19 patients.

France has some 5,800 beds in total, a level that the public authorities intend to ramp up soon.

More broadly, 36,437 new cases of Covid-19 were detected in 24 hours, against 33,417 the day before, announced President Emmanuel Macron in his televised address.

The death toll of the past 24 hours was not yet known on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
