A total of 516,898 new infections were reported, resulting in 7,723 new deaths.
This increase in the number of reported cases worldwide is only partly explained by the increase in the number of tests carried out since the first wave of the epidemic in March-April worldwide.
Europe is the continent in which the pandemic is progressing the fastest, with more than 220,000 new daily infections on average during the last 7 days, an increase of 44% compared to the previous week.
A new peak despite restrictive measures
As many countries re-impose strict measures in an attempt to stem this second wave, the region is approaching an average of 2,000 daily deaths.
