Markus Söder (CSU) described the warning app as a "toothless tiger", while the number of infections in Bavaria also skyrocketed.
The philosopher Julian Nida-Rümelin, on the other hand, criticized "Anne Will" for the fact that data protection requirements hindered the app.
In view of the high development and operating costs of more than 60 million euros that the Ministry of Health pays to the companies SAP and Deutsche Telekom, criticism of the app is getting louder.
Due to the high number of infections and the threat of overloading health authorities, an effective warning app would be more important than ever.
What is the problem, what contribution is the app currently making to fighting pandemics - and what could it ideally do?
The most important questions and answers about the role of the warning app in the second wave:
What are the app's biggest problems?
A central problem with the German warning app is the comparatively low warning rate.
According to this, only six out of ten infected app users store their infection in the app.
But only then can the warning app warn the contacts of the infected from the previous days and the app work at all.
"If you have your face mask in your pocket, you wouldn't expect it to prevent infections," says Oxford researcher Lucie Abeler-Dörner about the problem of the low warning rate.
The scientist is investigating to what extent tracing apps can contain the coronavirus.
