The car landscape in Israel has undergone a significant change.
Today, in almost every parking lot you look at, you will find SUVs of various sizes.
But what led to this revolution and why did it occur only after one particular vehicle entered the arena?
Here are the explanations.
Nissan Patrol, one of the SUV legends, has starred in many drivers' dreams.
His videos and photos in the deserts, savannas of Africa or the jungles of South America can be found in almost every human trunk he once fantasized about an SUV.
The patrol offered a square and versatile structure, powerful engines, the best off-road capability one could ask for and just as importantly - lots of sex appeal.
So why do you no longer see oversized SUVs like it outside almost every home in Israel, but mainly SUVs, crossovers?

Life in the urban space was decisive
The reason is pretty simple overall.
Less-grown SUVs integrate into an urban space, requiring easy maneuverability and comfort and a high level of safety.
They are more suitable for a living environment that includes rocks, mud or dunes.
This matter was also understood by car manufacturers and towards the end of the 90s more sophisticated SUVs began to appear, built for the daily living environment of most of us.
At that point, these vehicles had not yet captivated the audience, but everything changed when in 2006 the first urban SUV was introduced - the Nissan Qashqai.
Nissan, which has already offered the refined SUV, the X-Trail, knew that customers were looking for the obvious benefits of the SUV with a high body, which transmits “I am an SUV”, a high and controlled seating position, a spacious passenger compartment and a large trunk with easy access.
But the important thing to understand at Nissan is that customers also want the comfort and ride quality of a regular family car, combined with its cheap and simple maintenance.
Without complicated propulsion systems and unnecessary weight of assemblies, which even then are hardly used.
Or in other words: combining the capabilities and safety of a family car, with the packaging of an SUV.
This is exactly what the Qashqai offered and the customer response was immediate - it became a hit in an instant and to this day is high on the sales charts in Europe and the United States.
In Europe for example, it was the best-selling SUV in its category in 2018.

Success led to a revolution
Qashqai's immediate success has led other carmakers to align with the new direction and since then crossovers have become market kings.
Nissan, for its part, did not stop at Qashqai and continued to lead the revolution with the introduction of the Jockey, a super-based SUV, in 2010.
Nissan took the concept of the Qashqai, a family car in an SUV package, and created with the cockroach a playful and attractive design, the size of an urban vehicle with the same benefits of SUVs in the form of a high driving position and the important look of "I am a super cool SUV".
The cockroach also became an overnight hit, thanks to a head-turning exterior design, a successful price and an accurate answer to those who were looking for a "chic" vehicle that would define their worldview - young, vibrant, enjoying leisure and full of joy of life.
The cockroach took a category that failed to take off and made it what it is today - the most evolving category in the automotive world.
Pretty soon Nissan connected the X-Trail to the line that started with Qashqai, and it complements the Japanese manufacturer's offer in the urban SUV field.
He too, like his little brothers, is one of the best-selling vehicles in his category in Israel and around the world.
Which means that today you can meet Nissan SUVs in all sizes and almost all configurations, with five or seven seats, front or dual propulsion and a wide range of engines.
Each family can find what they are looking for according to their needs.
Whether it is a stylish and coveted urban vehicle with small dimensions and efficient and economical engines like the Nissan Juke, a classic family-sized vehicle like the Qashqai offered with a wide range of engines and power supplies up to 160 horsepower, or a vehicle for larger families that needs 7 seats and that is the X-Trail.
The latter is also offered in a dual propulsion version for those seeking more off-road capability.

So why does everyone want an SUV?
Going back to the beginning, the reason masses of families now have SUVs is their high usability.
SUVs offer comfort in so many parameters, such as easy entry and exit due to the height, easy access for small children to operate, trunk with easy to use and often also large volume, which can be further increased thanks to folding seats, high outward field of view (which gives driving confidence) And no less important, the ability to go down white paths and enjoy coveted corners, which ordinary family members can not reach.
Add to that a dynamic capability like a regular family car, a comfortable cabin to stay in and low maintenance and purchase costs and you will understand why these vehicles have conquered the world.
