Urban violence in Ain: police injured by mortar fire

Urban violence took place in the night from Friday to Saturday in Oyonnax (Ain), with fires of cars and garbage cans, as well as fireworks mortar fire which injured police officers, according to the prefecture.

Six cars and around 30 garbage cans were set on fire, requiring firefighters to intervene under police escort.

The police then came under firework mortar fire which injured three police officers, one of whom was prescribed 30 days of temporary incapacity for work (ITT).

This violence was filmed by local elected officials including the deputy Damien Abad, boss of the LR group in the National Assembly who denounced "inadmissible scenes" on Twitter.

The police union Alliance, for its part, denounced in a press release "the massive use of fireworks as a weapon by destination" against the police, reiterating its demand for "a rapid vote of a law in order to prohibit their free sale in the territory ”.

Thirty-five police and gendarmes were mobilized to put an end to this violence during the night.

CRS will reinforce them in the evening from Saturday until Monday morning, according to the same source.

“The situation had been fairly calm for several months.
