Over 50 million cases
A total of 50,010,400 cases, including 1,251,980 deaths, have been officially detected worldwide since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a count made this Sunday, November 8 by AFP from reports provided by the authorities.
Europe, with 12.6 million confirmed cases (for more than 305,700 deaths), has again become, in recent weeks, the epicenter of the pandemic.

Behind Europe, the most affected regions are Latin America and the Caribbean (11.6 million cases, 411,700 deaths), Asia (11 million, 176,600), the United States and Canada (10, 1 million, 247,600).
No targeted containment in France
French government spokesman Gabriel Attal on Sunday, November 8 ruled out the idea of confinement imposed on the elderly in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus epidemic while wishing that the French could celebrate Christmas "as normally as possible possible ”
.
While the country exceeded the 40,000 dead mark, the Minister of Health Olivier Véran judged that there was a "tremor" and "a form of slowing down" in the progression of the epidemic but that it was too early to draw conclusions about the effectiveness of the re-containment.
Berlin condemns "anti-mask" violence
German ministers and other politicians strongly denounced the violence in Leipzig, which resulted in 31 arrests on the sidelines of a rally of opponents of the restrictive measures imposed to fight the pandemic.

Curfews in Romania, Portugal and Georgia
A nighttime curfew, the obligation to wear a mask outdoors and the ban on public and private parties come into force on Monday, November 9 in Romania, where hospitals are threatened with saturation by the pandemic.
Portugal also establishes this Monday, November 9 a state of health emergency, and a night curfew comes into force in the 121 municipalities where approximately 70% of the country's inhabitants live.
This curfew will be applied from 1 p.m. during the weekend.

In quarantine for a week, Georgian Prime Minister Guiorgui Gakharia, tested positive for the coronavirus, announced a night curfew in several major cities from Monday as well.
The pandemic, so far well under control in the country, has been rampant since the lifting of containment in September.
Tightening of measures in Algeria
The Algerian government has decided to tighten restrictions in most of the country due to a sharp increase in cases of contamination.
The curfew is extended from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. in 29 of the 48 wilayas (prefectures) as of Tuesday, November 10 and for 15 days.
The government has also decided to suspend public and private urban transport during weekends throughout the country.
Collective transport between the prefectures remains prohibited.
