Numerous Volksbank customers in Germany have had difficulties processing their banking transactions online or at ATMs since Monday morning.
The responsible service provider Fiducia & GAD announced that 150 of the roughly 840 Volksbanks nationwide were failing.
The cause is a system change.
According to a "live malfunction map" of the AlleStoerungen.de offer, customers from various federal states are currently reporting restrictions, especially in online banking.
The failures seem to cause problems across Germany.
According to Fiducia & GAD, a crisis team has already been set up.
He is working flat out on a cleanup.
During the course of Monday, the systems should be available again as usual.
The service provider has ruled out a hacker attack.
Criticism of inadequate arrangements
The Federal Association of German Volksbanks and Raiffeisenbanks eV (BVR) initially did not respond to a SPIEGEL inquiry about user complaints.
For about a year now, Fiducia & GAD has been regulating the IT issues of all around 850 Volks- and Raiffeisenbanks in Germany.
The financial supervisory authority Bafin had certified that the IT service provider had serious deficiencies in 2018.
Among other things, there were complaints for the poor development of the bank control system, the inadequate authorization management that regulates the data access of individual people - and the inadequate precautions for possible IT breakdowns.
