Trailer for the movie "Asia" (United King and Movies)

Israeli cinema has gone through many things - but it has not had such a year.

The theaters have been closed since March, and almost no new film made in Israel has been released this year, with the near future also looking very vague.

Meanwhile, the Ophir Awards, the Israeli Oscar, took place today (Friday).

In light of the circumstances, it was not held in a hall in front of an audience but in a television office here 11, when almost all the competing films are unfamiliar to the general public, not yet commercially distributed and in fact not screened on a big screen in any frame - Israeli academy members watched them streaming.

One thing that has not changed is that this year, too, the winner of the Ophir Award for Best Picture has automatically become our representative for the American Oscars, and will compete for a place in the category of best international film, which this year seems particularly open.

In the category of best film, "Asia" won, Ruthie Perry-Bar's first feature-length film.

Alona Eve and Shira Haas star in it as a mother and daughter, whose harmony is shaken when the daughter announces her intention to lose her virginity.

Nir Bergman won the Best Director Award for "Here We Are," 18 years after he first did so for "Broken Wings" - the largest gap remembered in the Ophir Awards in this category.

The longest-running documentary award went to the controversial docu-"Leah Tzemel, Lawyer," which added another figurine to his cluttered degree cabinet.

The documentary award for up to sixty minutes was picked up by Ron Omar's "Rain in the Eyes" on his late mother, Deborah Omar.

Both films, by the way, are made by HOT 8.
