Very attentive
Ella Lee is not afraid to take a risk, and that is exactly what Israeli pop needs at the moment
Like Noa Kirl and Adi Beatty, Ella Lee also carries influences with her, of course, but also an original, witty, fun personality.
The lyrics are deliberately sloppy, but in the two singles she has released so far, the result is funny, unexpected and one that is not afraid to be weird.
And also: what did we think of the duet of Eden Ben Zaken and Natan Goshen?

Ella Li Lahav in "The Next Star" (Rainbow 12)
These to me - "What do you want?"
Ella Lee could have disappeared, just like many others who came out of the "Next Star" machine and the like.
Her breakthrough song, "Poor Little One," was a semi-curiosity, and long months passed between it and the second single.
And here, "What do you want?"
Immediately became a phenomenon, which at once jumps its status to a higher league.
Without a doubt, this is the surprising song of the period, and it is exactly what Israeli pop needs at the moment.
To understand what is so successful in the song by Ella Lee Lahav, it is worth returning to the stormy clip of Adi Beatty a few weeks ago.
Many recognized in it quotes and gestures to many stars who were there before her.
In essence, beyond any other discussion, that clip was a duplicate and replicated product, lacking in uniqueness or edge.
The songs of another star, Noa Kirl, may also be advanced compared to the Israeli pop that has been here for years, but they also do not bring anything exceptionally original or interesting here.

These too Lee carry with her influences, of course, but also an original, witty, fun personality.
The lyrics are deliberately sloppy ("How do you like it that hard", "You made me a week", and of course the title of the previous song "Poor little thing"), and the hollow singing style is disappointing (she is a good singer, too bad to give up the voice) - but in the two singles she released so far So, the result is amusing, unpredictable and mostly not afraid to be weird.
The legacy of Neta Barzilai, if you will.
What makes the song is of course the absurd chorus "Mami I do not know what I want", an imitation of some stupid and confused spouse, in a kind of obscure speech, accompanied by a requested rolling of the eyes.
This is an unusual move: it's hard to remember a mainstream song that included an imitation, at least in recent years.
Wisely, the songwriter Itai Shimoni and producer Yinon Yahel weaved this repression into an effective and contagious chorus, and to an excellent ending to the song.

Not afraid to take a risk.

Very little can be deduced from two single singles, at long intervals from each other.
It is not known if next fall we will remember this song at all.
This is one of the reasons she asked me to gamble on the whole pot and not be afraid to take risks.
With a little luck, she will be followed by more male and female singers who have come out of the worn-out stencils of the Israeli mainstream.
Nathan Goshen and Eden Ben Zaken - Crazy Life
Speaking of stencils: Goshen and Ben Zaken have been close for years, each in their own way, to a few individual and expected formulas.
To their credit, these formulas justify themselves, and the proof is a long list of hits that spans an entire decade.
And here's a surprise.
"Crazy Life," which Goshen co-wrote with Autumn Beger, at least takes Eden Ben-Zaken out of the comfort zone and takes her to hip-hop, something she hasn't fully experienced directly until now.
Only in the chorus, all of a sudden, does an old man suddenly erupt in strong singing, which is so characteristic of her.
Although Goshen has been a minister for years, it still seems to me that he is going one step further than usual.
An old man overshadows him either way, but it's not that he's unusually pale here - these are not forces in the first place.
She has already collaborated with Static and Ben El, Stefan Lager and Omar Adam, and even then she is the one who carried mediocre songs on her back.
Unfortunately, transformation is not everything, and this is also the case this time: this joint song is not really interesting, memorable or particularly exciting.
I'm not even sure they tried to do anything here beyond a hit that relied on the names behind it.
So here, there is a hit, and what now?
