Lilian (the first name has been changed) lived at night, glued to his computer, excited by certain ultra-violent video games like GTA (Grand Theft Auto) which he was addicted to.

On November 12, this 18-year-old young man living in Lunéville (Meurthe-et-Moselle) tried to take action by planning to attack a police crew.

Before, it seems, to give up at the last moment, due according to his statements to the number of police in front of him.

Arrested in possession of a sawed-off shotgun, a knife and a machete, he was presented to an examining magistrate on November 15 as part of an open judicial investigation, in particular for "attempted murder on a person holding public authority ”.

But Lilian was finally indicted only for counts of offenses against the legislation on weapons, according to the details of François Pérain, public prosecutor of Nancy.

Left free, under judicial supervision

This young man, without any criminal record, was also placed under the status of assisted witness for "attempted murder" and "criminal association", which allows the investigation to continue on these points.

More surprisingly, he was left free, under judicial supervision, contrary to the requisitions of the prosecution which requested his placement in pre-trial detention.

The public prosecutor of Nancy appealed to the investigating chamber of this double decision.

To provoke the meeting with the police, Lilian had first called the police station on November 12 in the early morning, claiming to be victims of violence from an alcoholic teenager.

Arrived on the spot, the three police officers do not locate any aggressor but identify Lilian.

Which left lying around a backpack from which the sawn barrel of a hunting rifle comes out ready for use, the safety of the weapon being disengaged.

A chambered cartridge is also found in the bag.

Lilian lets himself be challenged without offering any resistance.

While carrying out searches, the police crew then discovered a hunting knife at the waist of their jogging and a machete hidden at the level of the hip.

He explains to have set "an ambush" to the police

During his custody, this young man with no known activity explains having organized "an ambush" in order to steal the weapons of the police officers, with the sole aim of reselling them.

He also claims to have given up on his plan when he saw the police car arrive.

However, the exploitation of his phone reveals even darker intentions.

In certain SMS, it would be question, "more or less explicitly" according to a judicial source, to kill police officers.

One of the recipients of these messages, aged 16, was also taken into police custody.

This teenager, himself addicted to the same video games, then confirmed the existence of an attack project led by Lilian with the intention of killing members of the police, to seize their weapons and then kill other people.

The psychiatric expertise carried out on Lilian concluded that his criminal responsibility had been reduced.

Is it for this reason that the investigating magistrate decided not to place him in pre-trial detention?

Pending further developments, the case is already causing misunderstanding and anger in the ranks of several police unions.
