In Germany, the health authorities reported 410 new coronavirus-related deaths to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within 24 hours.
A new high was thus reached on Wednesday (as of November 25th, 00:00).
The total number of deaths rose to 14,771.
The highest level to date was reached in mid-April with 315 reported deaths within one day.
The number of patients being treated in intensive care units in Germany for Covid 19 disease also reached its highest level since the beginning of the pandemic in November.
Within one day, 18,633 new infections with the coronavirus were recorded - a good 1000 cases more than a week ago.
Last Wednesday the number was 17,561.
According to the latest figures from the institute, a total of 961,320 cases of infection have been registered in Germany since the start of the pandemic.
The number of people recovered was 656,400.
According to the RKI situation report from Tuesday evening, the so-called seven-day R was 0.97 (previous day: 0.97).
This means that 100 infected people infect almost 100 more people.
The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.
If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.
Greens are calling for uniform corona rules nationwide
Corona rules that are not uniform nationwide are currently causing confusion.
The leader of the Greens parliamentary group in the Bundestag, Katrin Göring-Eckardt, has called for long-term, nationwide uniform guidelines.
"What we need is first of all transparency and honesty. And we need perspective. And that means that we have risk levels," she said on Wednesday morning in the ARD "Morgenmagazin".
The rules should apply uniformly nationwide and be applied on site depending on the infection rate.
The debates between the countries in the past few weeks have led to uncertainty among the people.
"You lose the overview and you lose your nerve," said Goering-Eckardt.
The Prime Ministers of the federal states want to discuss an extension of the Corona rules with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) on Wednesday.
On Monday evening, they had agreed on a line with which they will go into the deliberations.
Accordingly, contact restrictions should be tightened from the beginning of December.
From December 23 to January 1, however, there will be easing.
However, shortly after the negotiations in the group of states, some heads of government already called for improvements.
The question of how many people are allowed to meet at Christmas is controversial.
According to the proposals of the federal states, up to ten people should be allowed, with the exception of children up to 14 years of age.
With this question it has to be discussed again how many households and how many children are allowed, said Göring-Eckardt.
"I very much hope that we don't get to driving all over the country and it won't be ten at the end, but ten every day."
Then a situation could arise in January and February that would bring Germany into "really big trouble", said the Green parliamentary leader.
