Three questions about mortar fire (fireworks)

Presented this Wednesday for immediate appearance at the end of his police custody, the suspect, who disputes the facts, asked for a delay to prepare his defense and was placed in pre-trial detention until the next hearing, said the magistrate .

On October 31, in the sensitive district of La Villeneuve, two individuals traveling on scooters had fired mortars on police officers several times, before fleeing.

The rear passenger of the scooter could have been disarmed after a defensive bullet launcher fire, which dropped his mortar without touching it, according to the prosecutor.

The six police officers, who had not been injured, had filed a complaint.

Recognized by his footprints

Investigators from the Departmental Security were able to identify an individual, homeless, already known to the courts, thanks to the fingerprints found on the mortar, which had been recovered.

The police said in a statement that the suspect's mobile phone had been geolocated "on the evening of the events in the sector" concerned.

A search warrant was issued to the police, who had managed to "get in touch" with the young man.

He presented himself to the police station on Tuesday, where he was taken into custody.

He admitted to "being there" but denied being "one of the perpetrators", according to the police.

At the beginning of November, as reported by France 3, the Attorney General of Grenoble recalled in a press release that “these shots are strictly prohibited and severely punished by the Penal Code”.

Jacques Dallest thus warned that "the prosecutors concerned will initiate criminal proceedings marked with the greatest firmness against the perpetrators of these misdeeds".

Depending on the seriousness of the injuries caused by the mortar fire, the penalty incurred can wait ten years in prison and a fine of 150,000 euros, he insisted.
