The affair moves the whole of Sweden.

Tuesday, justice communicated on the arrest of a 70-year-old mother, suspected according to preliminary elements of having kidnapped her son for 28 years.

The day after his revelations, "the suspicions have weakened", tempered prosecutor Emma Olsson in a press release.

“The investigation is not closed and suspicions remain.

But they have weakened and I feel that (the mother) cannot interfere with the investigation, ”it is written.

The mother, who was suspected of "unlawful deprivation of liberty" and of having "caused serious bodily harm", was therefore not charged or placed in pre-trial detention.

After hearing the 41-year-old son on Wednesday afternoon "and on the basis of what has emerged from the investigation in recent days, the suspicions against the suspect have weakened".

Social services alerted by the sister

Police confirmed on Tuesday the arrest of the 70-year-old woman, who was living in recluse with her son in an apartment in the southern suburbs of Stockholm.

According to the Aftonbladet and Expressen newspapers, the son, who reportedly lived largely locked up, had infected wounds, was malnourished and had lost almost all of his teeth.

It was a family member, who later turned out to be his sister, who had found him in the apartment, described as filled with rubbish and a lot of dirt.

This sister, who explained that she had not seen her brother for 20 years, also claimed to have alerted social services on several occasions, but without success.

While some accounts suggest that the son went out very occasionally, several neighbors told AFP and other media that they had not seen him for years, if ever.

The investigation "will now focus on the oldest facts," said the prosecution.

According to Expressen, the mother took her son out of school when he was twelve.
