Within one day, the health authorities in Germany sent 28,438 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

That comes from the numbers from Saturday morning.

The peak was reached on Friday with 29,875 registered cases.

The health authorities also reported 496 new deaths.

The previous high of 598 deaths was also reached on Friday.

The number of daily deaths had tended to go up recently, which was expected after the steep increase in new infections.

A total of 21,466 people have known to have died from or with the virus.

According to the RKI, a total of 1,300,516 corona infections have been recorded in Germany since the start of the pandemic.

The number of people recovered is around 957,500.

According to the RKI management report on Friday, the nationwide seven-day R-value was 1.11 (previous day: 1.03).

This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 111 more people.

The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.

According to the RKI, the seven-day incidence increases to 163.8.

The value indicates how many people are newly infected per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.

The goal of the federal and state governments is a value of 50.
