With a ventral spacing of 17.4 inches and front-wheel drive, don’t expect off-road capability;

Despite this, you can get off the asphalt with the catcher

With over 1,500,000 sales worldwide, the Renault Capture is considered an international sales hit, but its great popularity has not reached us.

The level of sales in Israel is probably dictated by reasons of brand image, prejudices and the image of the importer - these considerations should not be underestimated, but they are not necessarily related to the quality of the car.

Because that’s why we took the new Capture to the test, to keep up with the changes.

Renault Capture has to deal with European competitors that are already gaining considerable success in the Israeli market - the French Peugeot 2008, and the Skoda Comic;

We loved them in a comparative test before, and Renault is supposed to be squeezed into the space between them.

Other competitors are the Seat Arona, Citroen C3 Aircross, Hyundai Kona and Nissan Juke.

Road test: Renault Grand Scenic "Executive"

To the full article

The wall is carved in the style of a ninja warrior, leaning forward

Renault Capture is sold in Israel in three trim levels;

Intense at NIS 125,000, the luxurious Edition-1 at a sky-high price of NIS 140,000, and the Executive test vehicle costing NIS 133,000.

These prices are slightly lower than those of the corresponding 2008 models.

The Captures are armed with a supercharged 1.3-liter gasoline engine, the Intense has a power of 131 hp, the senior versions take out of the same block 154 hp and 27.5 kg. In the wide world, 1.0-liter, diesel versions are also sold. And there is a hybrid-loaded on the way.

More muscular than the previous generation

What's new?

The new Renault Capture is larger than the outgoing model;

11 cm longer, about 2 cm lateral and higher. The sizes have increased but the design style has not changed, and it is clear to all that it is the successor of the previous model. The French kept muscular and curved body lines, while increasing the power everywhere - Larger air intakes, stylish LED headlights as usual in 2020. We loved the small air intakes in the front wings, the striking but not flashy color combination.

The dashboard is unique, colorful and lined with pleasant materials.

The multimedia screen is large and useful

The curved design is drawn into the cabin.

The dashboard is upholstered in soft and pleasant to the touch materials, colorful upholstery adorns the dashboard, center console and seat upholstery.

The original design is drawn in the floating center console, beneath which is a useful storage compartment.

In the center of the dashboard stands a 9.3-inch vertical multimedia screen - it is reminiscent of Volvo's approach, and allows you to display several functions at once;

Navigation at the top, telephony + sound at the bottom.

The array functions fluently, and there are also physical switches to operate the air conditioner.

The "gear lever" is original, there is a nice selection of storage compartments and charging sockets

The system supports Android and Apple.

Behind the steering wheel is a pleasing 10-inch virtual dashboard.

We loved the digital display systems, but also encountered ergonomic oddities like a sound control lever hidden behind the steering wheel, unintuitive control of the cruise control etc; nothing is problematic but sometimes it is better to go for the familiar and acceptable.

The front space and seating position are good; , The driver's seat can be raised, the view forward and to the sides is good. The gear lever is unique in design and pleasant to operate. The rear space is less impressive, despite a 264 cm wheelbase and the option to shift the rear seat back and forth.

A pair of large passengers will be a bit cramped in the back, even when the seat is moved backwards.

There are rear air conditioner ports, and a selection of charging sockets.

The trunk with a volume of 422 to 536 liters, varies according to the location of the rear seat.

The control lever in the audio system is inspired by earlier Renault models, is inconvenient to operate

Motion

The 1.3-liter engine delivers 154 hp and 27.5 kg, in a wide and useful power strip.

The engine is muscular in relation to the category, transmitting power to the front wheels with the help of a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Box is not quick, but it keeps the engine at low rpm and relaxed, giving passengers Hkftz'or quiet and pleasant ride. She never will jump-digit circumvented but I prefer it over the boxes to speed up a squall, and certainly over the discontinuity boxes.

With 8.6 seconds From zero to 100, the new Capture is fast and agile, and even economical - in relaxed long-distance driving it has spent between 12 and 15 kilometers per liter, which is good in terms of performance and curb weight. Identifying pedestrians and two-wheeled vehicles, and in the midst of all this, I'm thinking that the rear brakes are based on outdated drums ... Hello, we're a second from 2021 and you are assembling my drum brakes?

With a ventral spacing of 17.4 inches and front-wheel drive, don’t expect off-road capability;

Despite this, you can get off the asphalt with the catcher

Capture 2020 is based on Clio's CMF-B platform.

The ride comfort is generally good despite the 18-inch rims, which are great for my taste.

The suspension calibration tends to the relatively soft side;

This gives the Capture a comfortable and isolated ride, at the expense of driving sharpness on a mountain road.

I like the compromise chosen by the people of Renault, suitable for the family character of the French crossover - no one here is looking to sharpen tires, and you can still enjoy dynamic driving.

Sharp and determined lines

Summary

The new Renault Capture meets the demands of the bubbly segment of small urban crossovers.

The second generation is slightly larger than the first, looks good and muscular, the cabin provides comfort and a cheerful atmosphere that some of the competitors lack.

The power unit is excellent, the power is meaty and available, and the level of refinement is high - the vehicle is quiet and comfortable and without being sporty.

We loved the new Renault Capture and the pricing that kisses from below 2008, is also not too expensive (although the Renault Clio will cost you less).

The big challenge for an importer will be to fight the prejudices that surround the brand but at least this time he has a good product in hand.

He has what it takes to be competitive, but along the way he will have to overcome the image barrier
