The Isetta (aka Knutschkugel) could come back as an electric car in 2021

Lots of new electric cars will hit the market in 2021. Some are exotic: from tricycles to vehicles with solar modules to extreme electric sports cars. And then Tesla's Cybertruck follows later.

The year 2020 was a good one for electromobility: Volkswagen's electric hopefuls ID.3 came onto the market, Tesla began building a factory in Brandenburg, and the registration figures for Stromer rushed from a record - thanks in part to an increased purchase premium and reduced VAT to the next.

Nevertheless, the year 2021 should go one better.

The manufacturers are planning a real firework of models: Mercedes is electrifying the luxury class with the EQS, Dacia is planning the Stromer Spring, which could cost less than 10,000 euros after deducting the premium and dealer bonus, and BMW is attacking the Tesla Model 3 with the i4.

But there is also a lot going on beyond the major manufacturers.

Many electric car start-ups hope to become the next Tesla and to fight for a permanent place in the automotive world.

The corona crisis should make this endeavor even more difficult than it was before.

This was also shown in 2020, when the Aachen-based electrical manufacturer E.go Mobile had to apply for a protective shield procedure, although the small car Life was already being produced and sold.

The ailing small-series manufacturer just escaped bankruptcy once again and found a new investor, despite steadily growing competition in the small car segment from established competitors such as the Smart EQ Fortwo.

New manufacturers can still make it and bring their cars onto the market - several start-ups are betting on this in 2021.

You can see in the picture gallery what some models want to set themselves apart from the mainstream - and also with which former fuel guzzler General Motors Tesla wants to cheat.
